Questions O's show about pedophilia raised

Yesterday I was watching Oprah.  She had on a 16 boy who had killed his molester.  The molester had befriended this boy and his family.  He had the kid watch his dog, do various tasks around his house so the kid could make some money, had the mom do various things for him, etc.  He was basically a part of the family.  He then went too far and ( Read more... )

Thank you for having an intelligent and insightful opinion on this matter, instead of an obvious prejudice (particularly against males) that is never explored fully.

The reason we even have the word "groom" is because a few brave pedophiles who wanted to do what they could to 1. stop their own behavior (they hated themselves for their crimes) and 2. help police find other offenders. This is not to say, at all, that this is the nature of all pedophiles, simply a handful who began speaking openly. I feel the word gets overused now. The most important thing to remember is that being a predator is not unique to pedophiles, it even goes on in adult and consensual relationships -- a person's trust is won, though one party only had ulterior or shallow intentions ( ... )

I am one that thinks every single person can contribute something to society. Even child molesters and murderers. So when people say they should be killed I disagree. We can learn from them and better ourselves and society in the process. I do commend Oprah because I think she knows this. It is why she went and interviewed some pedophiles for one of her shows.

It is also my belief that our society created these monsters-they are our Frankensteins so we should listen and learn from them.

But Oprah needs to show the other side, like false accusations, as well as be more frank about her own experiences -- I recall her stating she was promiscuous after her incident, but no further specifics.

I don't know that Oprah would agree with you that we created pedophiles, versus them simply being wired wrong, however there is certainly a larger variety than a singular evil monster. One of the most difficult things to explore, and it is not, is a new generation of teenagers more focused on stuff and less concerned with morals at all -- I myself was nearly a victim of a greedy gus with a lure of romance in exchange (that I did not want). We always assume the child is the victim, and indeed that is often true, but not exclusively.

Very true. False accusations happen quite often when parents are divorced and are fighting. I think it also may happen when there is a money incentive involved. One of my friends purposely has his mom around when he sees his daughter because his ex is a psycho and is capable of pulling this exact sort of thing ( ... )
