Watchmen TV series

This looks intriguing... haven’t processed and this is off the first watch. When the movie was released, there were people who aligned themselves with Rorschach’s summary justice approach. Does this series appear to take that a step further, presenting what looks to me like an army of altrights wearing Rorschach masks?

I'm kinda "urk" because that's exactly what would happen, but thinking of how many dudebros interpreted Rorschach's politics as a good thing in the comic/movie when he's clearly meant to be a satirical, critical portrait, I'm not sure I want a bunch of Shitler Youth getting into the show and thinking that it'd be cool to adopt this as their new symbol.

Okay, I admit I was looking at the notion on the confines of social commentary, the shadiness of a bunch of manbabies taking up Rorschach and wearing hoods oops masks. If nothing else, I like that the show is taking this up. But the thought of more men missing the point and being inspired by this series take it up as their banner is disturbing.

On the other hand, steering clear of this sort social critique and satire because there are people too stupid or bloody-minded to read it that way seems limiting (are people to be reduced to very simple and straightforward messaging?).

I got burned really hard on the X-Files remake. Granted, the source material wasn't as brilliant as Watchmen, but I did love the original show. But if you take it into the modern era, where conspiracy theories aren't a fringe fun thing but actually shaping US government policy, it either ends up being either a much darker story, completely incoherent, or straight-up reactionary. They went with a combination of the last two.

Rorschach is supposed to be this deeply damaged crazy person with odious political beliefs; now his ranting is basically mainstream American politics, albeit more poetic than Trump ever is.

Ultimately, I don't trust anyone who thinks that Watchmen needs to be brought into the present-day to have the kind of awareness it takes to adapt it to the present day. I suspect they think the mask is cool.
