Umika didn't noticed she'd drop her shopping bags.
"Umika, what--?" Umika barely heard Uki.
Umika ran away.
Uki looked aound but she didn't saw what made Umika act that way.
Umika ran and ran. She didn't want to stop.
She wants to be as far away from them as possible.
She saw them... and of all the places, she saw them there.
She'd never thought she'd feel this way. She was so hurt.
She had seen it coming... no, she didn't really. But there were clues. But she turned a blind eye on them.
She'd trusted him so much. Trusted Yuri sooo much that now that he betrayed her, she didn't know what to do.
Yuri was with her. With Fukuda Kanon. And they were at her special place.
Umika let that sink in and she abruptly stopped.
Her knees went weak.
She'd drop to the ground and just cried.
It was a good thing she'd unknowingly ran to the park. She didn't much care about her image as an idol right now but she didn't want anyone to see her like this.
They were in there. Her special place, their special place.
Umika wished she could disappear so she wouldn't hurt anymore.
She'd never thought Yuri would do this to her.
Last Friday she had borrowed Yuri's Ipod during their break. He was with he boys so he'd just given it to her without a word. She opened it and was surprised that every song changed. She'd known all the songs in Yuri's Ipod. Hey! Say! JUMP songs, Arashi songs, some foreign songs and 9nine's songs. The first song in his list was her 'Maji de Koi Suru 5-byo Ma' but now it was 'Ai Kakumei'by Takizawa Hideaki. She didn't mind it, but she was surprised with the change.
She'd browse through his list and was surprised to find only few songs of Arashi and no songs of 9nine. But there were songs and videos of S/mileage. There were even pictures of them. Pictures of her.
She'd thought something was really wrong then. But she'd pass it up as just her being silly. She'd convinced herself that there was nothing wrong with Yuri taking a liking to the group. It wasn't even wrong if he'd had a crush on Fukuda Kanon. It was only a crush. But inside her a voice had said that Yuri only had a crush on her before. She'd turn deaf this voice, too.
She'd forgotten about it after some days.
But she'd gotten a reminder.
Just yesterday when they were together, she'd borrowed his phone to contact Uki-chan cause they would be meeting today.
She'd left her phone at home.
She'd called Uki but she couldn't reach her.
She'd tried again. The line was busy.
"What is it?" Yuri had asked.
Umika had said that she couldn't reach Uki.
Yuri had suggested to try a while later and Umika agreed. She'd send a short mail to Uki saying to call her in that number
and then she'd return the phone to Yuri.
Their classes started. At lunch, Yuri had told her Uki called but since they were in class he didn't answer.
She'd borrow his phone again and looked through his calls. And she saw that she'd received calls from 'Fukuda-chan.'
She'd immediately thought of Fukuda Kanon of course. But she wasn't convinced. There were many 'Fukuda.' Maybe it was just someone from his agency or something. She'd made many excuses for Yuri. She wanted to believe in him. But deep inside she was very worried.
And now her suspicions was confirmed.
They were together. They'd met even though Yuri said he'd be staying at home today.
Yuri had his arm around Fukuda's shoulder and he was leading her inside the cafe. Her cafe. Their cafe.
It was their special place. It was where they first met.
They had met even before they started studying in Horikoshi. They'd met there by accident and they'd become secret friends.
There wasn't much to it, they just didn't told anyone they'd met each other.
And then, they'd been pleasantly surprised when they discovered they'd be in the same class. They'd smile at each other then
and let their friends 'introduced' them to each other.
And they'd started meeting in that cafe again; hanging out or studying.
Then Yuto asked them, his friends, to do study groups. Umika was about to volunteer their cafe but Yuri suddenly said it'd be good to study in Yuto-kun's house.
Yuri had told her after that that even though their friendship was already known, he'd wanted the cafe to remain a secret between them.
And after six months he'd finally confessed to her. Also in their cafe.
It was very unexpected. He'd just suddenly said 'I love you' out of nowhere. Umika thought of what they were talking then, something about a manga.
Before these memories made Umika feel light. But now, it just hurt.
Thinking about these. Thinking about him... She feels like her heart is being ripped apart.
She'd just cry in the abandoned park, on the snow. Cried and cried until she couldn't cry anymore.
Uki-chan had found her. Umika didn't remember much but she knew she'd accompanied her home. She'd also picked up the shopping bags she'd dropped. She'd left it in her room.
She'd called in sick the next day. She didn't attend school nor work. She just felt weak.
Some friends called her. Mirai-chan all but mothered her via the phone. Yuri called, too. But she didn't answer him. And after his call she didn't answer anyone else.
She'd just kept to her bed the whole day. She knew she was making her mom worried but she just couldn't. She can't even pretend that nothing was wrong.
She'd slept half the day. She'd awoken to a knock around afternoon.
She didn't respond.
After some more knocks and no reply, the door opened.
She wasn't sure what she felt when she saw it was Yuri.
"Are you okay?" he'd said.
Umika didn't reply. She didn't trust herself not to scream.
"What happened? Are you sick?" he asked as he approached her bed.
"I've brought your homeworks. And I made your notes." he said, placing some notes on her bedside table.
"Umika-chan?" he said as he sat on her bed, touching her hair.
She still didn't said anything. She felt like crying but she didn't want to. Not in front of him.
"Hmmm..." she heard him muse. "Tell you what, I'd go out for a bit and buy you your favorite cherry cake in our cafe. That might cheer you up."
That does it. Umika couldn't take it anymore.
She'd sat up and glared at him.
"Umika..?" Yuri had said tentatively.
"How could you?!" Umika screamed.
"Wha--?" Yuri couldn't even complete his first word since Umika started hitting him with the first thing she touched: her pillow.
"You! You! I don't even know what you are!" Umika screamed, her tears falling freely now. "I trusted you so much but you betrayed me!"
"What are you talking--?" Yuri tried to say but Umika continued hitting her with her pillow.
"I saw you!" she screamed. "With Fukuda Kanon! And in the cafe! And then your Ipod! All about her! You have pictures of her! And she'd called you many times! How could you?!" Every word was punctuated with a hit. Yuri tried to cover himself with his arms but Umika just blindly hit him, crying.
"Umika!" he'd called but she didn't stop. Finally, her pillow broke and they were both showered with feathers.
Yuri took the chance and held Umika's hand. "Umika." he'd called again but she continued sobbing.
He hugged her. She tried to resist, she'd started pounding on him but he held.
"Umika, listen." Umika's hit started getting weak. Yuri held her tighter.
"I didn't betray you. I'd never will." Yuri started. "That wasn't my Ipod, it was Ryuu's. Ryuu and Fukuda Kanon are going out. That's why she called me, she asked me for advice on what to give Ryuu for Christmas. That's also why we were together that day, I'd offer to help her shop for a gift. I didn't tell you cause I wanted to asked her for advice, too, on what to give you. But then a paparazzi started trailing us and I'd had no choice but to enter the cafe so we could shake him off. I didn't betray you Umika. I can never do that."
Yuri stepped back. "I love you, Umika. I love you so much I can't imagine life without you. I love you so much I hurt when you're hurt." he said as he wipe a tear from Umika's face. "I love you so much I feel happy whenever I hear you laugh even if I didn't know what happened or even if it's me you're laughing at." he continued.
"I love you so much, I'd rather die than betray you. And you know how I love myself." he said trying for humor. "I love you so much you're turning me into a sap."
His face turned serious. "I love you, Umika, and only you." he said. And then he'd move his hands to her, but his eyes didn't left her. There was something in his eyes. It was as if he was mesmerized.
He plucked a feather out of Umika's hair. "You're my angel." he said.
And now Umika realized what it is in his eyes. It was longing. It was love.
"You're so silly..." Chinen muttered as he combed his hand through Umika's hair.
Umika was so relieved, tears started falling from her eyes again.
And then she felt so guilty. What she did... She should have known. "I... I'm so--"
"Mmm..." Chinen shook his head.
"I understand. I'd get mad, too if it were me. I think worser than you did. I don't wanna let go of you. Ever."
Umika hugged him. "Then don't."
And now Umika realized that place wasn't so important afterall. It wasn't their haven. Cause their special place was right there, right next to each other.
AN:
-'Angel' (theme) fic.
-cliffy but I didn't know how to end it. my ideas were just til the last part. lol.
-was that too angst-y?? am i too redundant with their 'special place'? /whacked.
-about the title... i'm just playing with words cause I can't think of a good title. 'Haven' cause this is about their 'special place' and because it sounds like 'Heaven' and Umika is Chii's 'Angel.' lame pun, I know. /bricked.
Thanks for reading!
10 days to go! :D
