CHAPTER 1
"Natsune!" Ryuu called. "You're playing with that doll again. Mom will scold you again if she sees you." he warned.
Natsune flashed her puppy eyes at Ryuu.
He sighed, "Just don't let mom catch you, okay?"
She beamed at him, "Hai!" And then she went upstairs to her bedroom.
"Ryuu-nii's so nice, ne, Enna-chan? Shin-nii would have told mom if he's the one who saw us." Natsune told her doll. She has named her doll 'Enna.' It was the name of a place she saw in television. It was a very beautiful place, beautiful just like her Enna-chan.
"Natsune!" she heard her brother call from downstairs.
"Mom and dad are back!"
"Okay, I'm coming!" Natsune called back.
"I'll leave here for a while, ne, Enna-chan..." she said to the doll as she placed her gently on her bed.
But then her bracelet caught on the doll's Kimono and the obi went off.
"Natsune-chan?" Natsune heard her mom call.
"Coming!" she said as she tried to attach the obi. She did it poorly.
"Sorry, Enna-chan, I'll properly arrange it when I come back, ne?" she said as she rushed downstairs.
When she came back, she was surprised to see that the obi was properly arranged.
This was not the only time something like this happened.
On Ryutaro’s birthday, after eating outside, Natsune played with Enna-chan. Natsune removed Enna-chan's hair accessories so she could comb her hair, but then she couldn't put them back after playing. She decided then that she’ll fix her hair in the morning since it was already very late then. But then when she took her in the morning, she realized all her hair accessories were already in place. She thought then that her mom fixed them. During breakfast, she was waiting for her to scold her since she played with the doll again but it never came. She just assumed then that it was her Nii-chan who fixed her doll.
One other time, Natsune played with Enna-chan and removed her Kimono so she could wear the dress Natsune made herself for the doll. After playing, she dressed Enna-chan again with her kimono and then returned her to their display cabinet before her mom came home. But when her mom saw Enna, she commented that her kimono’s layers were arranged wrong. Her brother looked at her then and she bit her lips. She told herself she’ll arrange it after dinner. But then she forgot and only had a chance in the morning. But then when she looked at Enna-chan, everything was already perfect.
"You're a very curious doll." Natsune said, looking at her doll.
That night, Natsune played with Enna-chan again.
Ryuu came to her room and reminded her to return the doll to their display cabinet once she's done.
"Or mom will get angry." Ryuu said.
"I won't forget, Nii-chan, oyasumi na sai!" she replied.
But after a while Natsune fell asleep without arranging her things.
This was not good, she thought. So she got up intending to go downstairs. She was surprised when the lights went on.
“You are alive!” Natsune said looking at Enna-chan.
She got up and went to her brother.
She dragged him back to her room shouting, “Enna-chan is moving! She’s alive!,” to her bewildered brother.
But when they got to her room, Enna-chan was unmoving, lying on the floor.
Ryuu smiled understandingly to his sister.
“Natsune-chan, you were just dreaming.” He said.
“But...” Natsune tried to say.
“Go to sleep now, it’s way past your bedtime. I’ll return Enna-chan downstairs.” He said as he picked the doll up and assisted his sister up her bed.
“But Enna-chan...” Natsune tried once more as Ryuu tucked him in.
“Is also tired, so both of you rest for tonight, ne?” Ryuu said soothingly.
He proceeded to exit the room and go downstairs.
The next day, Natsune woke up very early, really, she barely slept. She at once, went downstairs and took Enna-chan back to her room.
Enna-chan wasn’t moving or showing any signs of life at all.
Natsune stared at Enna-chan, brows furrowed.
The doll still didn’t move. Natsune pouted.
She sighed, looking away from the doll.
“Unfair.” She murmured; her voice laced with disappointment.
“I thought I would have a new friend.” She said as she stood up, giving up.
“You... you want to befriend me?”
