Mariya clumsily washed her face as angry tears unwillingly fell. She really hated this.
"Mariya?"
Mariya looked at the sound of the voice.
"Misaki!" She called out and she broke down, crying to him.
"What happened?" Misaki asked.
"W-we f-fought again... And I can't even remember what it's about this time. Misaki, I don't know what I should do. It seems like everything is falling apart."
"I thought you two were happy?" Misaki said gently patting her on the back.
"I thought so, too. But these past few weeks it just seems that something changed... I don't know what but it feels like there's something missing." She sobbed.
"I hate this, Misaki. I don't why we've became like this. I wish we're more like Yuto-kun and Suzu-chan..."
Misaki smiled a bittersweet smile and gently wiped Mariya's tears. "You know Mariya-chan, instead of wishing you were someone else, be proud of what you two have. You'll never know who's been looking at you, wishing they could have that." Misaki said.
This words stopped Mariya.
She looked at him. "What do you mean?"
Misaki just gave Mariya another sad smile. Then from his peripheral view, he saw her walk away.
---
"So I guess you two fought again?"
Ryosuke looked up at the voice and smiled when he saw his best friend.
"Mirai-chan... yeah... about something stupid again." He grumbled.
"I saw Mariya-chan crying." Mirai said.
At her words, though it was only for a second, Mirai saw pain flash Ryosuke's face.
She knew it pains Ryosuke to know he's hurting Mariya.
"Mirai-chan. I'm a failure as a boyfriend. I just can't do anything right! Ugh!" Ryosuke said combing a hand through his hair frustratingly.
"Mariya deserve better! I'm such a jerk!" He exclaimed.
"You can't say that, Ryosuke." Mirai said chidingly, but not harshly. "No one can say that Mariya deserved better, not you or me. Because the thing that she deserve, will always be her choice."
Ryosuke just nodded. "Well, then maybe it's me who don't deserve her."
Mirai looked at Ryosuke sadly, "That's your choice as well."
The door suddenly opened then and there was Umika.
"Oh, were you talking? I'm sorry." Umika said and she moved to go.
"No, it's okay Kawashima." Ryosuke said as he stood up.
"I'll see you then, Mirai-chan." He said and then he went out their classroom.
Mirai smiled as Umika approached her.
"I heard what happened." Umika said. "Is Yamada alright?"
Mirai shook her head, "No. Mariya, too. I don't really know what happened to them. They were so happy before."
There was a pause, just Umika looking at Mirai.
"Are you okay, Mirai?" she asked.
Mirai smiled sadly. "No. I'm very confused right now."
"You love Ryosuke." Umika said.
Mirai nodded.
"How can you do that, Mirai? You love Ryosuke but still you support them wholeheartedly... I don't think I can do that." Umika said quietly.
"It's because I love Mariya as well. I love them both and I hold onto this love." She said and then she laughed and added jokingly, "With my hands wide open and my heart ready to let go and let the other grow."
Umika didn't smile though. "But doesn't it hurt?" She asked.
Mirai smiled. "It does. But that means I'm doing it right."

The following days flew by without Mariya and Ryosuke talking. There were definitely tension between the two, but neither seems to want to bend.
"Isn't it better if you guys talked?" Nozomi asked Mariya.
Mariya shook her head. "I can't... I just can't right now. I can't face him. It's as if something exploded. It had become more than just a silly fight."
"Why is that?" Nozomi asked.
"I don't know either." Mariya said, sighing. And as one would have it, Mariya saw Ryosuke pass by the cafeteria with Mirai.
"Do you still love him?" Nozomi asked once more.
"Yes. I--" Mariya said immediately but then she hesitated. "I think so."
---
"What's that, Ryosuke?" Yuto asked pointing at the box Ryosuke was holding.
"Oh, Mirai-chan made a strawberry shortcake for me." Ryosuke said smiling at the box.
"She knew that'll cheer you up a bit..." Yuto said.
Ryosuke didn't reply but he agrees.
"Mirai-chan really takes care of you, ne?" Yuri piped up. "Especially these pass few days..."
The three at that, turned silent.
"Hey have you noticed the english words 'Listen' and 'Silent' have the same letters?" Yuri suddenly asked.
"Eh? Oh, yeah. They do. What about it?" Yuto asked.
"Well, according to the book Kei-chan lend me, this is significant because only someone special can listen to you when you're silent." Yuri finished.
There was a pause and then both Yuto and Ryosuke laughed.
"So random, Chii!" Yuto said.
"Honestly, don't hang out with Inoo-chan too much." Ryosuke said, laughing. But truthfully, Yuri's words left an impression on him.

Mirai was surprised to see that someone was already in their classroom that morning. Usually, she was the first to arrive.
It was Misaki.
Misaki looked up at her and bowed. "Ohayo." He said quietly.
Mirai returned the greeting and silently went to her sit.
It was rather awkward.
But this was expected. The two weren't really close, but they share a secret.
The feelings each hide, both knew.
The many things Mirai wants to say. It was the same for Misaki.
The two doors, from the boy's route and from the girl's route opened and it was as if a spell casted was broken.
Mirai as well as Misaki was surprised to see Ryosuke and Mariya entering the room. It was just a coincidence, or maybe it was fate playing them.
There was tension.
"Ohayo." Mirai said, greeting her two friends. And Misaki, following her example, greeted them as well.
Both Mirai and Misaki will never know, but there was an instant. The instant when Ryosuke smiled at Mirai and Mariya smiled at Misaki. At that one instant, the two had felt deep regret.
'Funny how sometimes you're dying for them to know, but when they show up, you do nothing.'
---
Ryosuke felt he was standing in a crossroad.
The past few days he'd spent with Mirai made him realize it.
These times with Mirai, there were both nostalgic and new feelings.
He'd only realized how special Mirai was to him.
And he found himself asking who Mirai really is for him. He found himself asking who Mariya is for him.
Where do each stand?
Where should he go?
Should he go to the left where there's nothing right?
Or to the right where there's nothing left?
---
He was already expecting it when she called him out.
It hurt... as he thought it would. But not as much as he expected.
And it was a relief to see that it seems Mariya feels the same way.
"I guess the week apart made us realized..." Mariya said.
Ryosuke nodded.
Mariya smiled at him sadly and bowed. "Ryosuke, thank you for all this time. Thank you for staying by my side."
Ryosuke bowed back. "Thank you as well."
They looked at each other once more. Ryosuke spoke, "I never intended to leave you."
Mariya smiled, "Me too. But Ryosuke, we never did leave each other... I guess, love left us. Life isn't a fairytale after all."
"Ah... I'm sorry I couldn't be your happily ever after." Ryosuke said.
Mariya shook her head. "I'm happy you were a part of my once upon a time."
---
She'd done it.
She knew she made the right thing. She felt relieved as well. It was as if the bracelet he gave her weigh tons that she felt very light when she returned it.
But Mariya couldn't understand why tears fell from her eyes when she saw the back of Ryosuke.
Suddenly, she felt someone placed their arm on her shoulder as a half-hug.
She knew at once it was Misaki.
She turned to him and hugged him tight.
"It hurt after all." She whispered.
She felt Misaki nod.
She'd expected that. Misaki was always with her through everything.
What she didn't expect though, was the feeling of something wet falling on her forehead.
She looked up to see a tear fell from Misaki's eye.
"Misaki! Why are you crying?" Mariya said, worried.
Misaki looked away. "I'm not crying, baka."
Mariya just looked to him, still worried.
"Misaki..?" Mariya called from his back.
She heard him sigh.
"Fine, I was crying..." he said quietly.
"Why?" Mariya asked.
"Do you know about the thread and the candle?" Misaki suddenly said.
"Huh?"
"The thread asked the candle, 'Why do you dissolve yourself when I burn?'"
Mariya nodded, urging him to go on.
"The candle said, 'You're inside of me, if you suffer, I'm bound to shed tears for you.'" He finished.
There was a pause.
And then Mariya burst out laughing.
"Misaki, what's with that?" she asked, still giggling.
Misaki pouted but then smiled. "Fine then, you can laugh at me. Better than you crying."
---
Mirai knew she shouldn't feel this way but she couldn't help it.
When Ryosuke said they'd broke up. She was very happy.
And unbidden, hope started to bloom inside her again.
She really should stop this.
She should never expect, never hope.
She ought to know her limits, where she stand, what her role is.
Because it'll just hurt more.
---
It had already been months since they broke up.
Mariya had transferred school after their third semester.
The reason was mainly because of the rumor.
It was ironic how news got out that they were together right after they'd broken up.
Ryosuke never regretted what happened to him and Mariya.
He was thankful for both the happy memories and the things he'd learn.
As Yuya said while reading Koizora manga, 'Some lessons are learned through pain. Sometimes our visions clear only after our eyes are washed with tears. Sometimes we have to be broken so we can be whole again.'
Ryosuke chuckled at the thought.
"What is it?" Mirai asked him.
He smiled at him. "Nothing... just remembered something funny."
Mirai smiled at her and returned to her notes. It was currently self-study period.
"Mirai-chan?" Ryosuke called.
Mirai looked up once more, "Hm?"
"I love you."
Right after that Ryosuke couldn't really get why he'd suddenly said that so suddenly, out of context and right in front of everyone.
But still, it wasn't something he'd regret.
---
"Mirai and Ryosuke are together now?" Mariya asked beaming.
"Ah." Misaki said. "Ryosuke confessed in class. I think he'd surprised himself as well. The whole class were shocked." He said laughing.
"That's so sweet." Mariya said, giggling as well.
"So I figured..." Misaki trailed off.
Mariya looked at him. "What is it?"
"I love you, Mariya."
Mariya stared and after while.
"Mou, Misaki have no originality..." she giggled.
Misaki pouted but smiled. That was definitely not a rejection.
"Do you want me to rephrase? Hmmm... Nishiuchi Mariya, I love you since and for forever. I don't want to be cheesy but I guess you really can't help being cheesy in these kinds of situation, so fine, you can laugh, but I want you to know that I love you so much, I could die but I won't cause dieing for a girl is not cool. I'd rather I live for you because basically 'you' can be synonymous to 'my life.' Please be nice and do not laugh too much. There, happy?" Misaki said blushing furiously.
As he expected, Mariya laughed, but not harshly.
"Baka-Misaki. I don't want to be your whole life..." She said after a while. "I just wanna be your favorite part."
Misaki looked at her then, and then he chuckled. "See, your cheesy too!"
"Well, I tried." Mariya said, laughing as well.
END
Extra (just got the mail now. lol)
Ryosuke sighed as he read another article about him.
The media have been targeting him since his announcement about his relationship with Mirai.
Suddenly he have the image of a cold guy.
He sighed once again.
What's worst was, they were digging up his and Mariya's past. They were making him out as some player.
Previous reports had always been about him making this actress or that model cry.
He guessed that couldn't be help though.
They were half-true. He'd only dated Mariya and then it has always been Mirai, and never those girls he is linked with. But it's true he had somehow made them cry.
Well, a real man is not defined by how many girlfriends he had.
It's how many girls cried when he said,
"I'm sorry. I'm taken and I love her and only her."
Thanks for reading! :D
