The player-hours method is how it works at the Strategicon which was implemented by Paul and Dennis. Before them the policy was "eight hours" but similarly I wanted to run for four people instead of six. So, even though I didn't have to I always ran a third event out of good conscience but I still had management constantly pressuring me to increase my player counts to six up to and including them going ahead and putting the sign up sheet out with six slots regardless of what I told them.

I actually like the discount but not full badge for doing less idea. It's getting to the point where enough people are running events interesting to me that I'd like more time to play. I'd be willing to pay half or one-third price or whatever to get away with running two four man events.

I post only to point out that you don't need to use the "rds" after 2/3 or the "th" after 1/2 (which is incorrect anyway). :)

I never understood the reasoning behind giving A GM a free badge in the first place. I would much rather look at the list of games and know they are all being run by people who want to run games and not have to worry if someone is just phoning it in so he can get a free badge.

Will,

It's funny you should say that. The free badge has always made me take the GM job more seriously because at that point I'm not a volunteer. I'm an employee. It might be less than minimum wage but I'm still, effectively, getting paid to perform a service and I don't want to be disrespectful to my compensation.

But maybe I just have a weird work ethic.

Same here. But I also take pride in my craft, and GMing at cons is very much a craft to me.

I see a free badge as a sign of respect and recognition :-)
