Okay so Saturday afternoon.....including Joe's photo ops, the David, Joe, David/Joe panel, double photo op, David photo op and the autograph line story.
So after Michael's panel was Steve Bacic (who I was mostly interested in for his work on "The Guard") I didn't get to hear his entire panel but I did ask him which was his most challenging episode to do. Apparently it was the one where his character had to deal with some issues with his father (who is elderly) and his sisters want to move him from his room in a retirement facility. (Yes I'm trying to be vague because there are some people who haven't seen this stuff).
I had to leave partway through though so I could go down and get in line for the Joe photo ops. I was 'lucky' (I'll use that term loosely) enough to be in the room when
the camera broke. That was...interesting. Not really quite sure what happened but...it was kind of odd really. One minute they are snapping pictures away and then *bam* no more camera. So I'm standing there and they are playing music, so I started bopping (I refuse to call my monkey having a spaz attack motions dancing) around when Joe looks over. I happen to glance up and he gives me one of those Joe grins. I swear I nearly broke, turned into a puddle of goo, melted right there. They kicked us out of the room while they worked on the camera then when we came back in it was quickly my turn.
Then it was back upstairs for the lovely and entertaining Chris Hyerdahl's panel. I remember him talking about prosthetics a LOT. He also recreated his "I can see your destiny...John Sheppard" scene from "Vegas". Was very creepy but very cool.
After that it was time for the 'main event'- The David & Joe panels.
David was up first and he started off by asking the audience some 'tech support' questions, then said he was going to turn the panel over to questions because he could ask us questions all day. (There was a frequent thing after that where he'd be all "So how do I _____ in Final Cut Pro?" to us).
After my last meeting with him I was nervous about seeing him again and had sworn that I wasn't going to ask any questions. Yeah, that lasted about oh....five minutes.
I was in the Q & A line, and actually I wasn't freaking out....much. I get up to the microphone and David looks over and the FIRST thing out of his mouth is "That's a nice dress." I was so floored it took me approximately 5 seconds to come up with "thank you." (Yes I am a dork, but it caught me off guard). I had two questions for him so I started in on the first one.
It was about how he prepared for the scenes in which he had to be stunned. He replied that he studied the Muppets a lot. He did this little Kermit impression and also the piano player guy. Said that McKay reminded him a lot of the two old Muppets
Statler and Waldorf because he was so grumpy all the time. I mentioned something about how I'd found it hard to play dead recently and that I had to practice a lot (dying on stage is a LOT harder than it looks) and he quipped back "You had to practice being dead? *I mumbled yes* Just cut back on the caffeine!"
My second question was about Mars (because at heart I'm an animal person really) and how he's readjusting to having David home. David said that while he was gone Mars turned into a sofa....with legs. Apparently he's gotten REALLY pudgy and isn't too happy with David because David refuses to feed him all the time. I sat back down and listened to the rest of his panel (I didn't get many notes because I was laughing too hard and it was quite dark).
Then Joe came out to do his bit. He talked some about Remnants (after some confusion and audience explanations) he talked about how great it was but how challenging SciFi can be to film. I decided that I was going to ask a question so I got back in the Q&A line. I patiently waited my turn but they didn't quite get to me while Joe was alone.
So there I am at the microphone when David comes back out and they talk briefly about...something (frankly my mind drew a blank) then David turns to the microphone and recognizes me. He's all "You again?! You have a question for Joe don't you?!"
I laughed and shrugged. Then asked my question "So...we've heard David's story about filming Search and Rescue..." David is frowning in confusion so I supply "that's the one where you were stuck in the dirt with Kavan. (He nodded thoughtfully) I was curious what it was like for you filming that since your character was trapped so much deeper than theirs." I'll mention that David was kind of pouting at the side of the stage so I was all "Of course you can weigh in on this too, David, if you want." So David gives Joe this triumphant little look and is all "You hear that? I can weigh in if I want!"
Apparently while they were filming Search & Rescue Joe's dad had passed away so it was a little odd. (I don't remember much of what he said because I suddenly felt like a dork for bringing it up- not having realized THAT was the episode they were filming at the time). So when he's done, he's all "Good memories right there." David looks over and snarks "Way to go on bringing that up." then he pantomimes "So...remember that episode you were filming when your dad died? Yeah...lets talk about it."
I honestly can't remember a lot of their panel because I was laughing too hard. Though they talked about Bulgaria (I guess David asked Joe to come be in the evil snow monkey film). Joe said "There's something about Bulgaria....in the winter." and shuddered a bit. So David deadpans "I'd have kept you warm."
Shortly (or maybe not...time was very relative at that point) there after their panel was done. Then it was back downstairs for photo ops. I'd originally planned on just getting one with Michael but after seeing Joe I decided I had to get one with him, and then also the Joe/David one...and a single with David.
The Joe/David line was moving pretty quickly though I did have fun visiting with my friends while we were in line. I walk in for my photo and Joe's all "hey how are you" while David is all "Wow....you're really fast aren't you?"
After that it was 'back in line' for the David ones. (Which I skipped the line found a nice corner and promptly collapsed into a heap of exhaustion {thanks for acting up bad leg really})
So I get into the room for my picture and walk up to David and he gives me this little smirk and is all "Oh look it's the Queen of Questions." I blushed and then we snapped our picture.
Then it was upstairs again to wait in the long, long autograph lines. I was a little disappointed when I got Joe's because by the time I got to him (around 8:30, he'd been signing since 6:50) it seemed like he just wanted to get out of there. I found a nice chair and settled in to wait contently until my turn (because I was at the back end of that line).
I found myself moved to the front though when Creation Guy said if I was waiting for someone I'd have to do it on the stage and I explained about my leg (which I was NOT trying to use for sympathy. I just wanted to sit and wait my turn.). I had put on my con shirt by that time and when I got up to David's table he was looking at the picture I had for him to sign (my photo op from Burbank) and talking about it.
I looked at him and was all "I made a special shirt for you."
David: "You did?"
Me: "Uhm...yeah...see?" *points to the shirt*
The lady in line behind me helpfully piped up that he had to read it. So he looks up and starts reading (mouthing the words) so she teased him "do you need to read it out loud?"
He got done reading and looks back up at me. "You spent too much time on that."I replied that I hadn't really spent that much time on it and that the whole part about making him speechless was true. I also said that I'd seen him in Burbank in '08, and I was kind of a jerk and I was sorry.
He frowned for a second and asked me what I had said or did he want to know.
I briefly explained about what had transpired (I asked him a question, he responded, and I said hadn't seen something because "there is no Kavan in it."
He kind of scoffed and looks up at me and is all "Well why would you want Kavan when you can have me?"
So I in turn look him in the eye, and quite seriously say "Because I like him more." (I can't remember if I included a 'duh' on the end or not.) Then I was done.
