Need. Sleep.

Having spent the last 4 days and Monday night at Wexham Park Hospital I'm beginning to feel like Tom Hanks' character in that movie, The Terminal - although my appearance is probably more like his character in Castaway. (Except I'm not running around the hospital corridors dressed in a loin-cloth hurling spears at fish. At least, not yet anyway.) ( Read more... )

Thanks. Actually we spent Monday night splitting our time between being bedside in the ITU and sitting in the relatives room, and got about an hour of sleep after pushing a few of the chairs together to lie down on. It wasn't until about 5am that we discovered another little annex room that had two sofas in it !

Then a few hours after that we discovered another little annex room that had two beds in it ! Gahhh !
[Note to self: Always snoop around early.]

Good news on the progress. Our thoughts are with you. And I know that staying hospitals suck, so you get extra sympathy there.

Thanks dude. The time went surprisingly quickly actually !

Just heard that he's off the oxygen today and being moved into a surgical ward, so that's good. Sounds like he's feeling pretty grotty now but that's to be expected.

If there is anything you need doing, like feeding the cats or whatever, you just ask!

It would probably be more like having to tear them off each other than feeding them, but thanks anyway ;)

Really glad to hear that things are progressing well mate. I remember when my Mum was in hospital after coming back from Kyrgystan a couple of years ago and was in the High Dependency Unit at Wexham for about a week.

We had one morning when it was very much touch and go as to whether or not she would pull through and we were all sat outside at one point just waiting. It was just like a dream (or perhaps more a nightmare!). Not good at all. They are very good at Wexham and they certainly saved her life!

Really hope things continue to go well for him and you all as a family!

Thanks me ole mucker. I have a few issues with Wexham Park's Assessment unit as he was released two weeks ago and told there was nothing wrong with him. If it wasn't for my Mum and his GP fighting to get him readmitted -- well, it doesn't bear thinking about what would have happened.

However, as far as the care he's received since having the operation goes, I can't fault Wexham in any way; they've been absolutely superb and I've been hugely impressed.

Went over there last night to see him, and there's another chap in the ward who had a leg amputated due to complications caused by smoking - and what's he doing ? Sitting just outside in this small garden area smoking huge cigars, with the smoke flowing back into the ward. Just what you want when you've had major heart surgery.
