Okay. Less than 10 seconds of rumbling, and it was over. A badly built brick wall falls over on some cars, some spires off the National Cathedral. No one hurt. But wait! Federal buildings evacuated, college classes canceled, panic, stupidity, over-reaction, traffic jams. Good Grief! Don't people have any sense of perspective or even some ( Read more... )

LOL! I can see, though, that if it was their first earthquake, it can be a bit scary.

The sad thing will be the buildings they have to take down because of hidden damage. Unreinforced masonry is not earthquake friendly, and I suspect they'll find cracks and damage over the next few weeks.

I think we had 30-45 seconds here. It was startling and--because of the swaying light fixture and rattling glasses and dishes behind glass doors and leaping cats, rather sparkly with bouncy colors. Bricks fell over, by the front steps.

The news coverage was funny, but I don't think there was municipal overreaction around here; stopping the MARC was annoying, but I'd rather they took the time to check for damages.
