There's a girl who works in my building whose hygiene is...lacking.  It would seem that she rarely washes -- or changes -- her clothes, and her hair may not have seen shampoo in weeks.  Any clues as to how to approach this?  Everyone is stumped on the best course of action, but something needs to be done as it's starting to affect business in her ( Read more... )

Not precisely the moral highground, but you could always leave a note?

Nothing smells worse than an unwashed hoo hoo. I would have her supervisor tell her that she needs to start bathing regularly because it has become a health concern.

Also, are you and B coming this my christmas party this Saturday the 16th of December?

Thanks,
Mundee

Place a wire brush on her desk. If she asks why, let her know she can choose to bathe or it will be done for her.

I supervised a woman like this. It was a combination of poor hygiene and an untreated yeast infection. I just called her into my office, shut the door (opened the window!) and laid it out straight. I also presented the [company] mental health options. Then I gave her the rest of the day off.

YEESH! How someone could NOT treat a yeast infection is beyond me. They're not exactly comfortable.

It would be one thing if I thought she couldn't afford to do laundry or buy toiletries, but that isn't the case here. She told me today that she will be plunking down a few hundred dollars to buy something ridiculous, so why can't she can't kick down $4 for a load of clothes and some Suave??

that's the mental counseling part. There are specific mental issues that can cause this. A trained counselor can figure that out - she may need medication or something.

Was she always unkempt, or is it recent? that's a big hint.

Always. She's young and I think she just doesn't bother with it.
