8x05 Encore, Encore

[Maca has a deaf-mute boy as a patient and can't find his brother]

Maca: Esther!
Esther: Yes?
Maca: Where is this boy's brother?
Esther: I have no idea.
Maca: And what the hell is going on here that nobody ever knows anything?

[Esther turns to leave.]

Maca: Esther, I'm sorry. It's just that I'm very busy and this child is not doing well. But the truth is that I always take it out on you.
Esther: Well, to tell you the truth yes, you always do, but what's wrong. Don't you like me?
Maca: Like you? What are you talking about? It's the opposite! I like you very much. And really, you're the only one in the hospital that I like.
Esther: Yeah, and the rest...
Maca: It's not that I don't like them, it's that I hardly know them. And besides, since I like being with you, I hardly talk to anybody else.

[The boy makes noises and they run to help him]

[Rusti approaches Maca]

Rusti: There's a woman with a boy that wants to see you. She said she doesn't want any other doctor.
Maca: What's her name?
Rusti: Er...Azucena.
[Maca turns around sharply]
Rusti: The boy has a fever.
Maca: Okay. Take them to the waiting area and ask Esther to check on the boy. [Rusti turns to leave] Listen, also tell her that if she doesn't want any other doctor, she need to sit in the waiting room for a while.

[Esther approaches a woman]

Esther: Are you Azucena?
Azucena: Yes, that's me.
Esther: Maca told me that she's going to be a little late.
Azucena: Ah.
Esther: What's wrong with the child?
Azucena: Yeah, it's that...I would prefer to talk with Maca.
Esther: Yeah. It's just that we need to fill out the forms and we have a bit of trouble today.
Azucena: Yeah. I would prefer to talk to her.
Esther: But what symptoms does he have?
Azucena: Well...I don't know. A little bit of a cough, snot, his head hurts...

[Maca arrives]

Maca: Alright Esther, I take over now. Thanks. [takes the file]
Esther: Alright. [starts to walk away with the pen but then turns around and hands it over to Maca] Pen.
Maca: [takes the pen and laughs] Yes, thanks.
Azucena: Hello Maca.
[they kiss each other on the cheek]
Maca: Hello.
Azucena: [looking closely at Maca] Are you alright?
Maca: Well, the truth is that I'm not, but it's nothing to do with me. I'm fine. I've been busy with work.
Azucena: They told me that Chenoa* is here.
Maca: Well, tell me what's wrong. Why did you bring the child here?
Azucena: Well, it seemed natural that I bring him here, since this is the closest hospital to our home.
Maca: What's wrong with him?
Azucena: I don't know. His head hurts, he has a cough and he doesn't sleep well. And he has a fever.
Maca: Hi Luis. [puts a hand on his forehead] He doesn't have a fever. But let's run some tests anyway, alright?
Azucena: Alright, thank you very much. Do you want to have a cup of coffee or something? You don't look too good.
Maca: I'm the doctor.
Azucena: Yeah, but I'm the one who has always taken care of you.
Maca: I'm going to call the nurse, so that they can take the boy and have some tests done, alright?

[Maca leaves looking sad and closes the door behind her. Vilches sees her and asks if she's okay]

[after the tests]

Maca: Go on Luis, stay with the nurse. She's going to play with you a little while, alright? [signs the report and gives the pen to Esther] Take this Esther. Thanks. Look after him, okay?
Esther: Alright. [Maca and Azucena leave the room and Esther talks to the boy] Look, I've brought you these stories.
[although Esther is with the boy, she is still within earshot of Maca and Azucena's conversation]
Azucena: Is it something serious?
Maca: Drop the act. You know perfectly well that all he has is a cold. What brought on this nonsense?
Azucena: Well, you're not going to believe this, but I wanted to see you.
Maca: Well you can call me. You don't have to use your son as an excuse.
Azucena: Maca, I've missed you.
Maca: [sighs] Azucena, leave it, will you? You're saying this because you remember the good times, but you and I can no longer be together. Not anymore.
Azucena: But I can change.
Maca: No, no you can't. Don't count on that.
Azucena: I feel so ridiculous.
Maca: You're not ridiculous, but you have to accept the fact that what we had has ended. Besides, you said that you would never leave your husband.
Azucena: Yeah... Well then, two tablespoons of cough syrup before he eats, right?

[Maca walks Azucena and Luis to the exit]

Maca: Teresa, can you please call a taxi? In the name of Azucena del Rio. Thank you. [turns to Azucena] Well, there's nothing more. Give him the cough syrup and in three days you'll have him solid like a rock.
Azucena: Thank you.
Maca: There's no need to thank me, I'm just doing my job.
Azucena: No, for not being upset with me.
Maca: You know that I can't be upset with you.
Azucena: Well, friends then?
Maca: Of course.
[Azucena tries to kiss her but Maca turns away]
Maca: I have a lot of work to do. Take care of yourself, okay?
Azucena: Alright.
Maca: Listen, really, take care of yourself.

[Maca finds Esther in the cafeteria]

Maca: Esther, I was looking for you. Where have you left Angel's report?
Esther: The deaf-mute child?
Maca: Yes.
Esther: I left it in the archives. [Maca nods and turns to leave] Would you like to drink something? I mean, it might do you good to relax a little, right?
Maca: Well yes, you're right. And besides, if you're inviting me, then I can't refuse.
Esther: Done. Do you want some coffee?
Maca: Please.
Esther: With a lot of milk or...?
Maca: A little.
Esther: Did Luis leave?
Maca: Yes, he just did.
Esther: He's a very educated little boy. Were you his pediatrician?
Maca: Not exactly. His mother and I dated for a while.
Esther: You dated?
Maca: Yes Esther, we dated. Oh, come on. I can't believe that you're surprised this far on.
Esther: No, no, no.
Maca: It's strange how one's feelings change with time. But well...
Esther: And did you love her a lot?
Maca: Well, I suppose so. But that story has already ended. And now the only thing I fancy is falling in love again.

[she smiles and sips her coffee while Esther looks slightly jittery]
