Late night ramblings, and Where Did All The Keenspacers Go....?

So I've been looking at a few webcomics from back in the day. It leaves one wondering what most of the Keenspace (before it became Comicgenesis) peeps from the early years are up to nowadays. My God, it'll soon have been almost ten years ago. I don't actually know whether any of them are still webcomicing, (the people I did look up seem to have ( Read more... )

It is funky to look back at the craziness of the early webcomic craze...nowadays when I talk to new people about webcomics, they don't know about Keenspace or Keenspot. They've never heard of CRFH!!! or Sluggy Freelance or any of those good old comics. If it's not inked and painted by a professional artist that's publishing the collected volumes in stores, they don't really know it.

I started another comic a few years ago and abandoned it. I just don't have the time in my life for that sort of thing anymore. But I still read comics. Every single morning. :)

It was a craze, wasn't it...? I suppose it was only to be expected - you literally had this whole generation of young artists who were going "Hey - I have a scanner, I CAN PUT MY STUFF ONLINE!" and it was just - I do remember HOW exciting and thrilling it was to think you could actually put your stuff out there, reach an audience beyond the usual masses ( ... )

That's very true. I do remember enjoying finding fun new comics amongst all the ho-hum and the dross, and I believe that some of those strips should enter the footnotes of overall comic history. (When I Am King, for example, is still absolutely astonishing...!)

It is nice that it's more about quality now, though perhaps at the expense of some great story-telling that wasn't necessarily backed up by perfect art. I did really like the community spirit there was at the beginning of Keenspace, but I guess its own popularity was its downfall/implosion.

Boggles the mind just a bit...

I'm so glad to hear you say that, it makes me feel a lot less boggled myself. I suppose the whole Escape thing got so huge towards the end that it was tough to keep up with it all.

And 'cos it's worth repeating - SO glad you're still art making!

My comic's been on hiatus for something like two or three years, while I've had a crazy time, but I'm starting it back up at the end of the month. Starting another webcomic project next August.

The latter will not be on ComicGen (I liked that place a lot better before the name change) and the former is likely to eventually be moved to independent space, as well, as soon as I can get a handle on building my own semi-primitive autoupdater.

...

I really need to look into getting a scanner.

Coincidentally, in the last month or two, Blotto Street has come up in conversation between me and shurhaian twice at least. Specifically, the Sexina Slinke storyline.
