So today I was sitting in a concert and had a wonderful realization. Of late, I've been practicing for other people. Practicing because I have an orchestra rehearsal the next day or a quartet coaching or a lesson. However, I fundamentally disagree with this style of thinking. Yay!

It's not selfish to play for yourself. That's the only way any of us will ever 'make it' or at least be remotely satisfied with our choice of career. Once you start playing only for other people, you've lost an integral part of why you play.

Not sure if any of that makes sense. Basically, I agree with you. :)
