Yeah um, more nonfiction.You stare at the rings before you. The engagement ring is a little oblong, the corner of it squeezing in unlike the rest of the smooth curves that makes up its shape. Each ring, handmade just for you. A custom design with both of your birthstones sitting squarely in the center

The rings make such a wonderful metaphor here for your relationship when it worked, and now when it seems to be refusing to link again. Your son's birthstone is the third stone? Somehow, that would just make it all the harder for me.

Six years, but you've known each other much longer, loved each other longer. I wish this were going the way you want it to.

Nah, there are three stones but it alternates our birthstones -- there are two of mine, one of hers in the middle. The engagement ring only has two stones, one on top of the other.
