It's a holiday designating their independence from the British, if I remember correctly. But everytime I tell Canadians that my birthday is on Canada Day, I get the impression that it's not celebrated as our independence day... at least to the Canadians I've spoken with about July 1st.

I was in Canada for Canada Day once.. we'd taken our boat up there and were moored in the marina. Yeah.. they did a 21 gun salute with canons. Right over the marina. :|
