You know, you shouldn't be bitching at all, considering I had to spend the last five minutes looking up an understandable explanation of the word "stochasticity". Go you!
Wiki makes it seem more difficult than it is... math aside, it's a simple concept. It's basically randomly adding a range to known or assumed rates over time. Like say, you know for a given population that there are usually 3 babies born per mother per year, adding demographic stochasticity means they may have (randomly) anywhere from 0-5 babies per year. Environmental stoch means it was a shitty year and everyone had less than 2, or it was a good year and everyone had more than 3. Individual heterogenity means even though 2 similar mothers experience the same conditions, one had 2 babies and the other has 4. Stochastic sex determination means the ratio of males to females born each year is random.
The hard part is realizing and combining all those in the math in terms of survival and reproduction to get a realistic model.
no harder than say..... scrutinizing and taking advantage of faults in complex systems.
