So, there are now 'details' about the newest Blake's 7 revival.
And any vague interest I had is pretty much gone. Because, seriously, what. (no, really, what. Who thought this sounded like a good idea?)

I wish they'd decided to do Avon: A Terrible Aspect instead. At least it would put them to some trouble to make it worse.

You're right; this is so very typical and tedious and what do they even think made B7 work in the first place? Or presumably they think it didn't and they can rescue it.
Here's hoping desperately that the pilot fails and then they finally stop with this. If they must make new B7, it could at least have the goodness to be a "30 years later" continuation and not expect us to accept substitutes for some of the best TV characters ever seen.

However... I felt that way about the Battlestar Galactica reboot, and the reboot was (after a very annoying intro miniseries that made me want to throw things at it) amazing, for the most part. (It also fell apart mid-season 2, and though it got a lot better again before its S4 end, the showrunner had too much Attention Deficit Disorder to quite understand the continuity of his own series.)
So, maybe, this can be made good. But descriptions make it seem like "how badly can they miss the point of the original?"

Still, who knows? It is, it has to be said, certainly a terrible press release, if nothing else.

So I have to admit, I'm still not holding my breath, just crossing my fingers that it dies. Again.

i don't even care whether he is or not - obviously i like gareth thomas being handsome in a weird way, but i do understand that this is american television so obviously he's going to be the most handsome guy ever, but you have to specify that he is in a press release? that's the thing that you think is important about blake? the thing you think is worth mentioning as a defining characteristic? couldn't he be driven and charismatic AND (coincidentally) handsome ( ... )

Except, ye gads I'm sick of the dead wife trope. So, so very sick of that. It's disappointing. I know why they do it, they get instant cheap angst for their lead male while keeping him available for a new love interest. But it is the very cheapest form of fridging, and it may well be a deal killer for me. (Though probably not. At least not to start. Because space opera.)
