Is this staring into the abyss?

Apparently, Syfylis now has the rights to reboot Blake's 7. So says an article. Said article also has the following point to make:

"And the truth is, the original Blake's 7 was already much, much more fucked up than the original Battlestar, making it that much harder to do justice to the concept in a modern framework.Truer words were never spoken ( Read more... )

I saw that a couple days ago. And then I thought "What will Lyssie's reaction be? Let's watch and find out."

Then I promptly forgot to post to my journal for at least the 30th day in a row.

It will no doubt suck, but I'm almost curious, because, gosh, B7 is really high-premise and super-relevant. ("A show about freedom fighters who use terrorist tactics against an empire that relies on pervasive surveillance and overwhelming military power"? The average US audience won't know what hit them.) Although they say camptastic like it's a bad thing...

That article. Jeebus, don't they have an editor? Another set of eyes to go "IT'S 'ITS' NOT 'IT'S'" and "LOSE, YOU MORON, NOT LOOSE" would help so damned much.

augh. Now that the editor in me is happy...

Blake's 7 was one that I missed. I don't know much about the original and I haven't seen an ep. I don't really think The Polish STD Channel needs another "dark, gritty hit like BSG" in part because I really ended up despising BSG. When it was good, it was absolutely brilliant, but that whole bit in the article about abandoning whole plot lines that they found inconvenient? Yeah, BSG cribbed from that series, definitely.

That said, I don't know. I'd kind of like to see a decent Blake's 7.

I'm just not convinced SyFy has it in them to make it.

I heard about it before but I don't really believe it will happen. American series are not good at being cruel to their heroes and intentionally showing them as wrong and assholes. And if they do they usually rejected by audiences. I don't believe they'll keep anything but the basic premise and go more into melodrama. I'd rather re-watch Farscape.

If you hadn't already posted about this, I was going to tell you. Because your post is a lot snarkier (and better) than any post I could make.
