I shall cut for politeness (unlike all the people STOPPING ABRUPTLY WTF DO NOT STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE AISLES, ARGH.. er, ahem)
Ok, so this is going to have lots of minutiae as I try to sort out memories and dreams and such.
- Got early to the airport, got a decent seat. Spent the flight and wait reading. Got into Atlanta on time and hiked it down to the baggage claim area, where I got a text from greycoupon asking if I'd made it and such. Texted back. Headed for the MARTA where I loaded the MARTA card I'd accidentally bought two years ago with cash.
- Read more, texted more to arrange meeting GC and nicole_anell (and find out which side of the platform to walk up, as I failed at that the last few years). On exiting my train, I spotted the person walking ahead of me and went "I know you!" as I did, indeed, for karma_aster and I had shared a car without realizing it. We slogged through Peachtree Center together until splitting up as she was heading for the Sheraton to work Registration and I was headed into the Marriott to find my room.
- Things are a bit hazy, but I met up with GC and Nicole, and after letting me recover a bit (and don The Skirt, as not having it on felt weird, given the crowds already there and in costume--ON THURSDAY, even), we headed down to get our badges. GC was off to onsite-reg, and I was off to pre-reg.
- Registration (pre-reg line) was literally: as fast as I could walk the back and forths of the line thingies (wtf do they even call those?). I got up to the front and a thingie was open. BAM. Badge gotten. I also got in a five-minute power-walk. REALLY awesome. I hope they keep this new system and improve upon it (as I heard they had at least one system crash-type thing). Amusingly, karma_aster gave me my badge. =D
- There was re-grouping and food, I think. Then sunshine_queen joined us (and possibly others? My memory is spotty, here), and we trooped off to make a store-run (I was entirely lucid on the alcohol we bought, but the timing and the number of us? idek.) I discovered that Hot Damn is still sold in Atlanta, and went back the next day for a normal-sized bottle (it returned to Milwaukee with me, huzzah)
- Alcohol was drunk, food was had. We looked over the pocket guides for things (and I discovered the Doctor Who airing, and was gleeful. That was my Set In Stone panel-thingie). We talked. frolicndetour was there, too. I was tipsy, there might have been others. emmiere turned-up at some point in there (or was that Friday? idek)
- Friday was another Skirt day, and we all turned out for the BSG panel (TRICIA HELFER == <3 Tahmoh glomping Tricia = Awwww).
- Here is where my memory is even worse. I know other things happened--like I ran into waterdaughter between the Marriott and the food court and did an about-face to chatter at her for a moment. There was also eating in there (foood is good). And GC and I did another Publix run (I WANTED MORE ALCOHOL, TOO).
- Lyssie's favorite layered shot: one-part Kahlua, one-part Irish Cream, one-part Hot Damn (cinnamon). YUM.
- Mama Ninfa's happened on Friday. I remember that, as I had two very good margaritas (one of them was greeeeen) in rapid succession and then was tipsy (I'm a light-weight, yes). bluediamond421 arrived on Friday, too. There was vanilla vodka shots in there. And more fangirl gleefulness.
- Saturday was another blur of a day, with the second BSG panel attended (Mary McD was there, hurrah). Nicole asked a lovely question that got an even lovelier answer (the women of BSG would have liked to have more interaction between them, they hated the isolation). Lots of fangirling over Tricia and Mary. Lots of fangirling over many many things.
- Had lunch with waterdaughter. Then there's a vague blue of dealer's/exhibitor's halls (I got the Wisdom LS for cheap, and Shades of Milk and Honey for my plane-ride home, as I'd finished Mairelon the Magician). (this might have happened before the BSG panel) Ran into Ryuu again, with Becky and others, but we were soon parted.
- Dinner? idek. OH RIGHT. Ahem. Night Terrors screening, in a packed room with tons of fans. EEEEEEEeee. Totally worth the wait in the line for it (and I think we were in the outside/overflow line, too). While waiting in line, my parents called (and went to VM, as my phone is notorious for never ringing properly) to wish me a happy birthday.
- Then, flushed with GOOD TVS OMG, we recongregated at our room where GC was already inundated with fangirls (someone else is going to have to note who they were, as I've got no idea). More alcohol was drunk (we killed all of the alcohol except for GC's second bottle of rum)
- Bedtime happened, I expect.
- Morning brought the Eureka panel (already mentioned elsewhere).
- Afternoon brought my sister and nephew (who showed up wearing his Iron Man costume, so I'm glad it was another Skirt day). I am so so proud of her and he is ADORABLE. (my brother-in-law was sleeping, as he's working nights while taking classes during the day)
- Came back in time to catch the Comics and Feminism panel, where the guy presenting his paper was a little out of his depth, but some of the other panelists (and audience members) knew what they were about. It was a bit like reading an online discussion, with a few "BUT WHAT ABOUT THE MENZ?" type questions. And there was almost a break into research-methodology wank at one point. The panel was standing-room only, and as I'd arrived late, I was leaning in the doorway. So that was awesome.
- Then we had dinner at Pacific Rim, where our order took forever, but the dude in charge tried to be entertaining (and seemed to like us. idek if that's true or not). I made everyone look at pictures of my nephew.
- There was alcohol in there, again. More randomness (I ran into deaniebtvs and then dragged her up to our room, then ran off with her to find triciabyrne1978 for five minutes; whilst listening to awful karoake), then congregating at the Marriott in couches and chairs for a long while (I don't even know what the conversation was about, as I couldn't hear a thing)
- Goodbyes happened at some point. Like, on Sunday night and in the afternoon. And then people were gone when I woke up on Monday. (Surprisingly, the crowds weren't as small as I'd expected. It looks like DC is turning into a five-day event for a lot of people.) More goodbyes were said (*sniffle*)
- I'm probably forgetting more Monday things. More dealers' room, more exhibitors' hall. Pre-registered for next year. Hung out with Ryuu and Shayna and Becky and Nicole for a while before Nicole had to leave. I left not long after her, and was at the airport way too early (except that I needed the rest for my feet, and food. And then I almost stayed for the later flight except that I had to work Tuesday--and it's a good thing, since the flight after mine was grounded? Or really late.) [also, my flight had some major turbulence at one point, but was otherwise fine]
SIGH. And that is another years' Dragon*Con. I feel like I forgot things, and that this is less accurate and more... idek.
Door banner that did not last the whole weekend (but that was still entertaining for a while):
Full colorAnd, the original
Black and White Friday night door banner shenanigans (we returned to find them like this)
