The thought of a pregnant Gwen as "M"-figure is strangely compelling, actually. : )

She'd be good at it. She's been in charge before and she's good at getting things done!

Clearly one of us should write fic. (And by "one of us" I mean you, natch, since my fic-ing skills have sucked recently. ; ) )

I sort of am? At some point. I'm finishing this BSG thing first, though.

ITA with Gwen shooting the tires. Such a badass move. I also agree that Jack had to leave. No person can do what he did and just carry on with their life. Which is one of the reasons I'm hesistant about another series because I have a feeling the writers will try to keep Jack just as he is and they can't. They have to show how his actions have changed him and I don't think they will.

There've been SO MANY movies and tv shows where I've shouted, "SHOOT THE TIRES" and no one ever does. AND THEN GWEN DID IT and I freaking love that fact.

I really hope the next series (I've heard they've got approval for one, at least) does follow-through with Jack not being his happynormal self. He already moved from smarmy con man to srs bsns leader guy, so it's not like it's hard to let him evolve (also, I sort of think Barrowman might object if he didn't keep that darkness?)

Of course, I also think the next series should use him sparingly, but that's just me and my "there should be a new team with Gwen in charge" side. =D

ITA with Team Gwen and *fingers crossed* that they throw in some Lois and PC Andy, as well:)

Dude, Gwen offered Lois a job, last time! She totally needs to get hired. Also, she is awesome in her own right. =D

2. Because it's possibly more fun to watch the silly little humans freak out? I would suspect it's a sadistic streak. They could, but it's more entertaining for them this way.

3. Sort of on topic: I am kind of amazed at the pervasive view of someone on my flist who believes that Gwen, being the alleged 'moral compass' of the team, thinks that somehow equates to 'never doing anything wrong, ever' because she fucked Owen once (and VERY OBVIOUSLY regretted it) and clearly likes Jack (but doesn't act on it), and has a really ridiculous level of hate for the character because of that. And I do not see this person aim stupid attitude at Jack at all even though he KILLED HIS GRANDSON.

But I love Gwen, and believe that she has a Reason For Living besides Jack. Good lord.

2. I'd buy that if they were less.... stupid? I mean they're sort of like the fluffy dog equivalent of aliens. You suspect they stole all that tech, don't really know how it works, and are slumming to get drugs.

3. I... don't know that I'd call Gwen the moral compass, but good grief is she painfully human (so were Tosh, Owen and Ianto).

But I've seen that attitude, and it just baffles me. Is Gwen self-righteous and wrong? Yes. Not all of the time, but yes. (and that bit where she's trying desperately to prove that she and Ianto were close kills me every time I hear it)

Sigh. Hrm.

2. They're junkies. They don't necessarily think things through ;)

3. Well, the person in question says it was stated by the writer in a Confidential or whatever it is they call them for Shagwood, which I never bother to make an effort to see, so I don't know. WHATEVS.

Most of the COE followup fanfic I've seen (and yea gods, I've been mainling TW fanfic for a month) has had Gwen running the new Torchwood, in whatever form it becomes. In almost every case, she does a better job than Jack. (I saw one last night that indicated she wasn't, but it was so badly written I gave up before I got too far.)

As for Point 2, it's one of a few too many plot holes. (Though if you bring those up, you're clearly just another hysterical fangirl who can't appreciate Rusty's genius because you want your gay boys back.)

Do you happen to have a delicious account, or some other place where you link these sorts of fanfics? I'd love to read them.

I don't bookmark 'fic, sorry. :(

Yay! See, I was going to edit that bit again and note that I really really hadn't had time to look very deep, so that makes me happy (I was running late to work).

And the plot holes. Sigh. Excuse me while I apply real-world knowledge of blood spatter to Rupesh's death and POINT OUT that there would have been blood spatter AND a trail of it. Bah. (ok, so that was the bit annoying me this morning at work, yes)

But then, I expect a lot from my tv shows, also I'm a woman and so easily hysterical. Yup.

eta: yes, that was sarcasm at Rusty's expense (even if I like his Supernatural comment)

Is it really logistically easier for them to gather the kids themselves? They have one ship that's presumably a cargo ship. Even if they have technology that might be able to snag kids off the earth from their playgrounds and bedrooms, will a cargo ship crew have the numbers for that sort of volume and training for that sort of equipment? They could probably have managed the twelve in 1965 by themselves, but they were probably operating under an existing, proven business plan under which if you get the mark to do it for you on the test-marketing run, then they're primed to do it for you if you come back for mass-marketing. alryssa is right, they proabably have a sadistic streak, because a sadistic streak is a business tool in that game.

Well, maybe? The problem is the sheer logistics in gathering that many children all at once.

And I was thinking of their ability to control the children, but maybe they can't make them move, only speak?

And I was thinking of their ability to control the children, but maybe they can't make them move, only speak?
That is a good question. It depends on whether their control of the children is a sort of hypnosis that makes them susceptible to command ("Children, get into our ship."), or whether it's a broadcast remote control of their bodies so that all their actions are identical and simultaneous ("Sir, I can send the 'walk forward' command but not all of the children are pointed at one of our ships."). The latter is implied by that, as you say, the former doesn't seem to have been attempted.
Or perhaps taking control of the children for long enough to conduct the boarding operation would damage them and make them useless.
