Thinking of going to see Ponyo on Saturday, since my brother and his girlfriend have the day off I guess? Yay! Anyone else want to come see it with us? (I mean... there's probably only one or two of you who read this who could go see it with us, the rest of you all being so far far away ( Read more... )

Okie-doke! Afternoon/evening showing sounds fine to me. I think Curt said he had the day off? But he might've just meant the evening too. Anyway, yay!! Can't wait too!

Should I give you the 'talk,' Lys? Plant style? Actually, 'the birds and the bees' are quite relevant to plant reproduction...*ahem* When two plants love each other veerrrrry much~ *snicker*

Anyway, do you only have one squash and one zucchini plant? If that's the case, then you just have a problem getting viable pollen donors. If they don't receive pollen, flowers just fall off and no fruit is produced. (and most plants can't self-fertilize) But even if you do have multiple plants, you may not have available pollen vectors like bees to help you out. There's currently a very alarming decrease in bee populations, and you may be seeing the effects.

And now that I've checked google, it seems that squashes are dioecious, so a lot of those flowers are male and won't produce fruit anyway. But if you don't get *any* fruit at all, then I think it's a problem with pollination.

Ooooh, how helpful! (hahah. yes, yes, I know how pollination works and all.) I thought we had two zucchini plants that came up, but it could be that one of them didn't make it. I guess that would create problems, huh. And I know there's only one squash plant, but that one did get fruit once... Hmmm. I don't think it's a problem of bees, because I usually see quite a few around our yard on various bee-attracting flowers.

I guess that's stuff to keep in mind for next year's garden! Thank you :D

We'd totally go see Ponyo with you if we could! I thought about going to see it at the same time, but then we'd have to find a ride again.

Yay painting! There seem to be so many things that we all enjoy doing but forget we enjoy. With us it tends to be watching certain anime serieses.

Aww, thanks! It'd be funny to be watching it at the same time, across the country from each other. Hee hee.

So many enjoyable things in life! Watching anime in general probably qualifies as one of the things I forget about...

Out of curiousity where does one acquire cherry tomato seeds around here? Or did you get them young from a nursery (or your workplace!)?

We bought the plants from work. But we also sell the seeds, if you didn't want to buy baby plants. (though i'm not sure if they still have seeds now-usually they get rid of that stock by this time of year since no one plants tomatoes in the fall.)

Oh nooooooooooo!!! What are you doing then?

Maybe I'll just have to see it a second time then! Or if there's another day that would work for all three of you...
