Movie nostalgia weekend

This weekend, Netflix and OnDemand have been love. I saw the 1943 Heaven Can Wait thanks to the former. Don Ameche was a very handsome leading man, and Gene Tierney was radiant. The whole film was a manners piece of the nature you don't see made anymore. Of course, one couldn't be as accurate about the sexist nature of the period in a movie ( Read more... )

I <3 NetFlix. I find lots of stuff I've meant to see there. Potty language and humor is why I rarely see comedies anymore and it's driving me away from other genre of film too. Oh well, I guess it's a sign of olde phartism happening.

Ocean's 11 was, I think, a comedy. Certainly it was lots of fun!

the new breed of comedy is strictly lowest common denomenator. they do better in making my head hurt than actually making me laugh. nothing witty, nothing clever, just stupid base jokes that you can see coming a mile away and wish you couldn't. they make me cringe. i love the older ones best, yeah. okay, yes, and i still love kevin smith. him we can keep. =D

They tried with Rat Race, though it wasn't very successful.
(Though I think it's still the only movie to feature TWO black Academy Award winners).
