Well, I seem to remember that the dog showed up in the music at the beginning of every episode, during the part where Jed is shootin' up some food, when up from the ground come a bubblin' crude. Look at the music from some of the later color episodes, though I can't remember if it still showed the dog in those.

Yeah. It's hard to tell from that photo... Black and Tans traditionally have a white patch on their chest. You can't really see if that's a shadow or a dark saddle. *grumble*

I don't know, that really does look reddish to me. And I seem to recall him having a light reddish coat.
