"What for?" He hunches his shoulders up against his cheeks in an attempt to clean up his face.
She presses a clean tissue to his face, wipes the tears away tenderly while he attempts to fend her off. "All this time, you could have died. Either of us could've died the other night, and then we'd never...I'm so sorry." She buries her face in his shoulder again.
Yep. Hermione to a T. What a lovely, uplifting (even with its sombre backdrop) tale.
In my head, Hermione makes that speech at some point no matter how they get together. There's another R/Hr getting together ficlet coming up, and I'm going to have to make sure her speech patterns aren't too similar in that one!
oh my gosh, this just hits all my first love/bittersweet/bubble of joy soft spots. And I like best that they still go to Harry because Trio!. What a lovely moment to capture.
~Emerges from pile of work.~ I was looking through the f-list and got sidetracked (inevitably) on to your LJ. And there was this! Abject apologies for not being around to notice it before. I'll try to comment sensibly later - for now I'm going to read it again. And then read Gin's story. (She's home for the summer and I've e-mailed her to tell her about it).
You're so very welcome :). I've sort of set myself a task of writing something for everyone on my flist, and it was such a pleasure to attempt one for you. I'm glad you found it eventually! I love reading R/Hr, but I find it so difficult to write.
(Among the bits and pieces I've posted recently is another missing moment - Harry with Dumbledore's body in HBP from Ginny's POV. I'll find the link if you're interested.)

And horribly belated happy birthday, by the way!

I'm sorry. Do I have an especially dirty mind on Tuesday mornings that I read innuendo into this? But otherwise, nice flangst!

(And I keep meaning to go back and read more of your writing, because I suspect it hits a lot of my soft spots!)

Aaaaah! ~Hugs Ron~
Than you so much for this. Sweet and in character - and I love missing moments from canon, as I think you already knew.
