Still not dead, mostly

...although I am back on antibiotics to hopefully kick out the last of the infection that caused the pneumonia last month. Life is kind of frustrating at the moment - I'm trying to take it easy, but also need to earn money, so any energy I have is going on paid work, and if I overdo it, I end up in bed again. Feh. I have tried to pop in here and ( Read more... )

I'm relieved to see a post. I had been getting rather concerned. Please take care of yourself. Some short time inconvenience will probably end up allowing you to get strong faster in the long run. And I'm glad to hear that you are somewhat on the mend!

Thanks - I am definitely on the mend; it's just going much more slowly than I'd expected! I'm not used to having to lie down after a ten minute walk to the shops. :-/

Reading and meh: translations (I am not going to blame the man himself until I see the Swedish original) of Henning Mankell's Wallander books. Jesus Christ, the dialogue is excruciating.

Oh noes. You've just killed my last hope of the one Swedish author everyone is talking about maybe, just possibly, being a little bit more bearable in translation. Trust me, the Wallander series is excruciating in Swedish too.

I was prepared to give Mankell the benefit of the doubt, but in the translator's defence, I'm not sure you can do much about lines like "The Swedish summer is too short and too beautiful to die in", which might sound lovely except that it's spoken by Random Policeman No. 3. Because of course, all Random Policemen speak like that!

Ah, well, I suppose I'll give up on him, though. My mum is obsessed, which is why I tried reading one in translation, but I threw it across the room after just a few chapters.

I did love Åsa Larsson, though, so thank you for recommending her!

Oh yay! You'd been absent for so long I was starting to worry. I'm sorry you're still under the weather, but pneumonia unfortunately has that effect. It'll clear up eventually. *hugs*

*waves* I've been popping in and out, but I have fest commitments, so they have to take priority over other stuff.

Are you doing Yuletide?

Totally understand. Sometimes I have to hunker down and keep a low profile too, when the obligations start piling up.

No Yuletide for me - I'm doing NaNo instead. :-)

So glad to hear from you again! Hope you're feeling back to normal ASAP. Not much going on here except job woes (argh) and National Novel Writing Month (yay!).

Take care! *hugs*

Really sorry to hear about the job woes (although it looks at if that might be working out, at least in one respect?), but yay for Nanowrimo! How's it going?

Cheers! And let me know what you think if you find Larsson's books (I have no idea what the translation's like, unfortunately).
