Recs: Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House books

Two wonderful Little House stories that took my breath away. Fittingly, one deals with Caroline, and one with Charles.

Wisconsin (1639 words). With Charles gone and the wind and wolves howling at night, Caroline considers why the family moved west.

I haven't read those books since I was a little kid. I did love them. My favorite was one with the big snow. I think they were in in Minnesota then. Hard to believe that Wisconsin and Minnesota was so isolated. Years later Laura and her husband eventually settled in Missouri

Something better might be the writings of Rose Wilder Lane, her daughter. A better writer then her mother (she helped edit the Little House books) and a journalist for many years in San Francisco. At that time, she was more famous then her mother.

they're lovely books aren't they? i read them a few years ago while i lived in japan. they make me want to go to america where those sorts of prairies still are.
