Because my flist has way more patience than I do when it comes to looking for new books...
Anyone have a recommendation for a book (or two) in the same vein as Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson books?

Diane Duane's Young Wizards series (So You Want to Be a Wizard, etc.)
The Pendragon Adventures
My brother's a big fan of Percy Jackson and both of the above, and his current obsession is The Hunger Games.

The Unicorn Series by Tanith Lee Black Unicorn, Gold Unicorn and Red Unicorn are excellent stories about Tanaquil, a Winry-type witch, and her adventures with three different unicorns (one which she 'builds', one which is a war machine and the other...well...). I think that's the only Lee YA series available in the States at this point. Her Wolf Tower series isn't quite as fun, but enjoyable. Tanaquil's a far more engaging character, though, IMO.
Diana Wynn Jones writes some lovely things, too, and they should be on the shelves and easy to find. Like...Howl's Moving Castle and Dogsbody.

Anthony Horowitz's series (Evil Star, Nightrise) wasn't half bad (I should go finish that)
Howl's Moving Castle and House of Many ways by Diana Wynne Jones are good (the second book castle in the air? i didn't care for)
The Alchemyst: the secrets of the immortal Nicholas Flamel and the rest of that series by Michael Scott and the Maximum Ride: series by James Patterson aren't bad
Dean Koontz's Odd Thomas series is enjoyable and the parasol protectorate books (steampunk vampire/werewolf stuff) isn't bad either

I think the Parasol Protectorates are hysterical, but when I was my sister's age (13), I didn't really 'get' the whole Victorian humour, so maybe next time.
