[nanomadness] Overachievers procrastinate before Nano even starts

Oct 21, 2010 02:10

So, this year I'm excited for Nano again. I'd forgotten this feeling, the build up, the absolute rush to do something creative and to do it in a set amount of time. I'm on the Nano forums, chatting with people about novels, complaining about muses who won't behave and plots that refuse to be pinned down.

I have not, however, committed to writing a ( Read more... )

Yay! I'm glad you like the synopsis and the cover. Now I have something to actively stare at (and curse) when the Nano block hits.

Okay, I have to ask... a trebuchet? Is that a new NaNo requirement this year? ;)

There is (used to be?) a Trebuchet Club on the Nano forums where they challenge you to work a trebuchet into your novel. Works best in things like high fantasy novels, but some people got pretty creative on how to wedge the trebuchet in. (Dream sequences were popular)

That time just before Nano was always my favourite. I could still believe that this time I'd really make a go of it and achieve something... and then the procrasination set in and I'd give up in the first week. I think it's a very canny move of your to do the cover art before November starts. It has also intrigued me about your story, so I hope you might consider posting bits and pieces of it as you go along.

Doing the banner/cover before November was one of the lessons I learned from Nanos past, 'cause (at least for me) it keeps me thinking about the novel, about thematic elements and the appearance of characters without actually writing the words. I've failed pretty hard the past three years, so I definitely know that this is the exhilarated calm before the storm but it's hard not to get caught up in that rush and that pure unadulterated hope

Maybe this year's the year!
