One of the more... interesting things about being 12 or so hours out of sync with 90% of LJ (between living in Oz and a complete ban on LJ at work) is going to bed with everything all fine and dandy, and coming back the next afternoon/evening and realising there's been a complete panic doing the rounds. *cue frantic catching up ( Read more... )

I know, I was wondering what was going on when I first signed in. o.O

I'm not sure about Merlin. I love all things Arthurian, though, so probably will end up giving it a go. It can't be worse than Robin Hood, surely. :p Part of the charm of Arthurian myth is that it *is* so mutable and has transformed so much through its history, IMO. And that it's given birth to so many other tales and myths... proto-fanfiction? :p

Joys of living in Oz, I suppose.

And Arthurian myth = proto-canon, yeah!

Merlin is different to Robin Hood - just as cracky, but different, somehow. Deeper. Or perhaps that's just because I have more of an investment in this legend. Well, that and I can't stop myself subconsciously thinking of Robin as a fox.

But if you're interested in Arthurian legend, I definitely recommend icarusancalion's post, although it's a little spoilery if you haven't seen the series and intend too.

I watched the first episode of Merlin and was distressed by the "new take" on the legend. I a therefore very intrigued to read that post, because I have heard good things about the show and am generally interested in that type of show. Thanks!

It's a good (but dense) read, and yeah - I think it would help reconcile you to the changes. But beware! It could be considered spoilery if you haven't seen the series.

And I can vouch for Merlin being a lot of fun, if you can get over the intentional inaccuracies and changes.
