In case you haven't checked the lj spotlight lately, one of the new communities featured is badmakeup.

Being an ardent fan of makeup with her fair share of opinions, I was amused, and promptly explored the community.
I'm really not pleased by what I found.

I think lj spotlight is really just a popularity contest without regards to a journal/community's content quality. The mods of a comm I belong to periodically tell members to make suggestions to lj so the comm would get spotlighted and get more members, but I guess no one has gotten to doing that since the comm hasn't become a cesspool of wank and fail like other ONTD spin-offs.

Don't like it? Don't join, and just ignore it. But that's just too simple for you, right? You had to make a public post in the hopes of someone in charge of the Spotlight noticing this and going "Oh my stars, she's right! What have we done!" and remove my community from the list. Unfortunately for you, I'm the one who found it. Thanks for the laugh.

Livejournal frequently gives props to ohnotheydidnt and they sure as shit don't "handle the kind of fail with some modicum of respect." ONTD bashes everything from makeup to weight to dating choices, and they're meaner than my entire community put together. Livejournal isn't going to give a flying rat's ass over a makeup community slamming scene queens and guidettes.

I didn't post this or make it public to be passive aggressive, and I don't expect an "oh my stars" reaction. I'm a small-time user of livejournal, small enough that I didn't know about ohnotheydidnt, but I think it's a pity that ontd is supported like that, too.

It's funny that you found this at all. Were you curious how many similarly indignant reactions popped up on livejournal, or just bored?

Amusingly enough, I was searching for nail art communities by looking up "nail art" as an interest. When you search interests, there's a link at the top leading you to the Search function. Out of curiosity, I typed in "heatherface" to see what came up, and this was one of many posts bashing me because of that community.

Judging someone simply based on their actions on livejournal is no better than acting that way, just fyi. I make no apologies for that community, but I do know how much it sucks to be mocked, which is why I don't allow people to link to personal sites or anything that could be trolled, and I delete posts when (nicely) asked to if the person being mocked finds it and contacts me.
