There were 2 series of Life on Mars, and there have been two series so far of Ashes to Ashes (the second series being the one that finished last night). Life on Mars was wonderful, but from the little bit I've seen of the American one, bore bugger all relationship to the dross that appeared on American screens (I still haven't forgiven my husband for making me watch the last ten minutes of the Yank version, and I use the word Yank advisedly...)
Presumably the next season is staying as Ashes to Ashes and allegedly will be the absolute last. Mind you, they said that about this series, so we'll wait and see. Maybe after Glenister walked from Demons, he had a change of heart about doing more of AtA, and who could blame him.

I've never gotten into them, myself, but they sound interesting. I watched a couple episodes of the US LoM.
