Thoughts While Packing-up Christmas

You know that out-of-sorts feeling? It’s like a creeping fog of discontent, hovering around the edges of almost-happy, threatening to obliterate the fragile seedlings of enthusiasm you are trying to coax into full bloom. We didn't drive around to look at lights either, and we didn't walk through a 'famous' area here called Winterhaven, which is a wonderland of lights. We did our best to find adult things to do and managed to get out to some fun, local events, but.... I really wish our kids enjoyed it all more. My son NEVER buys presents, but always enjoys the things I buy for him. I love buying gifts, and I don't need him to buy things for me, but I would have loved it if he could have come over to help decorate the tree. Time is so valuable. Didn't even get answer to that text and email. So... didn't bother. We just have to find ways to enjoy the holiday without much family involvement... it's hard... most of our friends have bigger families and/or grandchildren to keep them busy... but.... This year just left a sort of empty feeling.... Here's hoping that Christmas 2014 is better for both of us.
Happy New Year, 'wren'.

No, I get what you are saying. It's not about the gifts, and we have also cut back, but it would be nice to be remembered...to have someone take the time to really think about what you might like. It doesn't have to be expensive. I also think you are right about the abbreviated season. We barely prepared for Thanksgiving and then, boom, it was Christmas.
