They just don't look like they should be able to fly.

How you doing?

Not too bad. Still not 100% on the job, but better.

A day on the water certainly helped; getting away for four days in a tent next fortnight will help even more.

I really could use a day on the water. Or four days in a tent. Or anything. But especially the water.

Glad you're doing a bit better.

Wow - that's like catching lightning.

Glad to hear you're doing better, too.

That is a truly stuning photo! Opportunities like that don't come along very often.

No kidding! He landed as we were prepping to put the boat in, and I just kept the camera poised for the moment the engine gunned and he took off.

That heron is looking a lot healthier than that water! Such euculiargainliness ...

There must have been some open water nearby in the same lake or watercourse. Catch any fish, yourselves, or was it about that at all?

That is healthy water; it's duck weed, perfect shelter for the small fishes that herons love. There were at least a dozen herons along the stretch of the Holland from where we slipped in and where the west and east forks converge. Plus osprey, turns and grebes; lots of feathered fisherfolk making their living on the water.

The boys all caught something; I prefer to hunt through a lens over putting in a line.

very nice!

*makes note to leave the house and actually see the outdoors once or twice while I'm out here visiting the farm*

Thank you!

I don't know why it feels like such an effort at times to go for a walk; it's just a matter of stepping out the door. But I understand - I don't seem to get outside unless it involves driving for several hours first.
