Yep...the baby was hysterical for a good hour or two that I was there. Not much else to say on the topic though.

I know everybody wants to know about my field trip to prison yesterday though. So we got to take a tour of two prisons in Baltimore: the Maryland Transitional Center (aka Maryland Penitentary), a minimum security prison and also the MCAC ( Read more... )

Yep...I just added a little more to it, if you'd like to re-read it. I know the entry wasn't too exciting, but I thought the experience was one people should read about.

Oh no. This is how it starts.

First you visit a prison, then you're writing letters to inmates and the next thing you know you're Mrs. Henry Lee Lucas.

Don't do it Lyndz. There are lots of guys who love Phat Azz White Grrls who haven't stabbed anyone to death.

Yours In Christ,
O. Sourcery

The guys at MTC haven't stabbed anybody! I'm sure they're all in for nonviolent/vice crimes.

It was so weird...even amusing at times...how much they were yelling at us. They all seemed pretty harmless though, so I wasn't scared after the first minute or so.

what class was this for? it seems weird that you would go to visit prison without discussing our racist justice system? or at the very least, the racial discrepinancies in it?

This was for my Corrections in America class. We talk abut racial issues but not in so much death in that classs. I expected there to be discrepencies, but not as high. I think the most recent statistic (2003) is that 44% of inmates are black. So 90% seemed really high to me.

That was really interesting! The other day somebody else on my friends list wrote a long post about being able to see cadavers and autopsy-related stuff for her anatomy class. Yall are making me jealous - the closest thing to a field trip I have had this year is going to see photography exhibits haha

This was my first field trip in all of college...unless you count one time when my professor gave us class off to go sit in on a court hearing on our own...and I don't.

It was a really great field trip, one that I think everybody (justice major or not) should go on because it's a good experience to have.
