You don't get NBC? I thought NBC,ABC, and CBS were requirements of owning a TV. Huh. Weird. But you can always watch online....cause it looks goooooood!! Or, invest in cable :)
It's based off of S.M. Stirling's Emberverse book series. I've always liked the author's writing style previously, but it was pretty different in this series. And the subject matter is pretty much the same as the TV series except the books start right after the lights go out. The first book follows several different people, but they're not really 'regular' people: the first group is a family of millionaires being led around by a forest guide and the second is a bunch of wiccans. So it just threw me a lot... I had really wanted to see how the average joe dealt with the diaster, not a millionaire. I don't know... I still have the first book; I might reread it and change my mind.
This looks interesting, but honestly I wish it would take place in the immediate aftermath of the electricity shutting down instead of "15 years later".
I'd love to see the people getting the initial shock of realizing that they're running out of food/supplies and can't get more, and then the chaos and looting, and the government struggling to do something and slowly falling apart. I feel that'd be more exciting.
But I'll definitely give this a try. It still looks good.
I don't know what I'd do either. I'd mainly be worried about my mom who needs her epilepsy medication (and if something like this happened she wouldn't have access to it - so many people with medical conditions in a situation like this would be screwed).
They also left out the fact that without electricity, our nuclear power plants would melt down and make large portions of the country unlivable. People would die of radiation poisioning or be forced to move.
It would definitely thin the population out in a hurry :( They showed the plane falling out of the sky as one example. But it would be all kinds of transportation as well. Ships would be lost at sea, too. And think of the initial loss of life when all these things malfunction --and the hospitals are off line. And the loss if everyone on life support.... Yeah, the sci-fi of it is way more fun than the reality if it!
