“Zhou mi!!” The door threw open as the people cam tumbling through, faces of shock and anxiety.
Zhou mi turned around, the wind blew, bringing his fringe away from his eyes.
“Zhou mi!! Come down from there! Please!!!” Siwon begged, he was almost crying, arms reaching out to Zhou mi in desperate hope to pull him down.
“Zhou mi....come down please! Please! Just tell us what's wrong!!” Kyuhyun yelled
“You would never understand....” Not knowing who Zhou mi was referring to, the others only stared in shock and helplessness.
Their manager was desperately yelling at Ryeowook about something, but no one heard.
“Gege! Don't do it! You can't do this! You still have me! We can depend on each other! Please!!” Henry yelled as tears ran down his face, no one put his arms around him to comfort him like they usually would have, all of them were staring at Zhou mi.
Zhou mi's eyes turned sad “Henry......”
“Gege! Come back down...please!” Henry reached out his arm, Zhou mi stared at it for a while.
“I'm sorry......I can't go back....I can't fight anymore, you can't depend on me anymore, Henry.....I'm sorry...” Zhou mi whispered softly in chinese while Henry shook his head desperately.
“Zhou mi! Hangeng! It's Hangeng!! He wants to talk to you!” Ryeowook yelled, waving his phone in the air.
Zhou mi froze “Han-Hangeng gege?”
Ryeowook nodded furiously, holding out his phone.
Zhou mi hesitated, but reached out his arm, he still couldn't reach.
“Come down and answer it!” Ryeowook pleaded, but Zhou mi shook his head.
“Put me on speaker!!” Hangeng was yelling, he can be heard even without being put on speaker.
“Hangeng gege....” Zhou mi spoke softly, but Hangeng seem to have heard.
“Zhou mi!!! Zhou mi! Listen to me!!!” He was yelling in chinese now, desperate, frantic.
“Hangeng gege.....why did you do this to me?” Zhou mi yelled, a tear rolling down his face.
Zhou mi closed his eyes, closing out Donghae, Eunhyuk, Kyuhyun and Sungmin's soft coaxing, Hangeng's yelling through the phone, Henry's pleading, Siwon's shouting, Ryeowook's sobbing.
The world seemed quiet for a moment. He spread his arms and leaned back, smiling.
I'm finally flying......
“No!!”
“Zhou mi!!”
Frenzied yelling and shouting was all Hangeng heard before he heard a loud crash as Ryeowook's phone dropped to the ground, and the line went dead.
He stared at his phone with fear
“Zhou mi! Zhou mi!” He yelled as he sobbed “Gege is sorry! I'm sorry.....I'm sorry....”
-
Zhou mi didn't die. He landed on the extended roof tops of the building 2 storeys down from where he jumped.
Eight people sat outside the operation room baring heavy hearts.
None of them said anything, but endless images ran through their heads, all about one person.
Zhou mi.
The memory that flashed across Donghae's mind was the last time Donghae had a proper conversation with Zhou mi, Six months ago, they were drinking, after Zhou mi's came back from China- from his parents' funeral.
“I'm sorry....” Donghae patted Zhou mi on the back, Zhou mi only managed to smile slightly in reply.
“Donghae....do you miss your father?” Zhou mi asked softly after a while.
Donghae smiled sadly, tightening his arm around Zhou mi's shoulder.
“All the time.”
“I miss them so much....I want to see them.....” Zhou mi sobbed as Donghae pulled him into his embrace. They didn't talk much that night, just drank until both of them were crying.
The next morning, Donghae woke with a heavy head and a ringing cellphone.
He left Zhoumi sleeping while he went to his schedule.
If anyone asked him why he never really talked to Zhou mi after that night, his only excuse was his busy schedule.
-
Sungmin remembered the Zhou mi while they were in China, three months ago promoting their album.
Zhou mi smiled a lot less, it was only till manager-hyung told them to watch out for Zhou mi that he realised.
“I found these in his fan letter stash.” manager-hyung winced as he threw down a small pile of crumbled paper.
Sungmin poked through the pile, the letters were in chinese, preventing him from understanding, but the bold red lettering and skulls and red ink stains made to look like blood didn't look like they were saying nice things.
He picked up one which was in Korean.
“Serves you right for being close to our oppas! Your parents died because they had a horrible son like you! You cursed them! You should feel guilty! Do you have a heart? Just drop out of Super Junior so you wouldn't curse anymore people already!”
Sungmin gasped as he widened his eyes in horror, he knew Zhou mi had antis, but never thought about how cruel they could be.
Manager-hyung nodded in sympathy “Just take care of him ok?”
All of them murmured their agreement.
Sungmin knocked on Zhou mi's door that night, Zhou mi let him in with a smile
“Sungmin hyung? Whats up?”
Sungmin said he only wanted to chat, Zhou mi sat down and chat with him for a while, nothing seemed worrying about him, he smiled and laughed at the right places.
Sungmin wanted to ask “Zhou mi....are you okay?” But ended up swallowing it.
Now, he wondered if he had asked that question on that night, would Zhou mi have dropped that fake smile of his and poured out his thoughts. Maybe he would've been better then, not bottling up all his emotions, maybe it wouldn't have lead to this. As Sungmin thought about all the ”what ifs“ he couldn't help but feel more guilty.

The Zhou mi that came to Eunhyuk's mind was four months ago, in their dance studio.
Everyone had already left, so Eunhyuk thought. He turned off the lights to the studio and made his way to the changing rooms.
The changing rooms were pitch black, he heard a whimpering sound as the lights flickered on.
“Z-Zhou mi?” He rushed to the figure who was sprawled over the basin, coughing like he'd just thrown up.
“I thought you went home!” Eunhyuk exclaimed, Zhou mi had rushed out of practice earlier, his face pale and sweating. Their dance instructer told them to continue practicing while their manager went to check up on him.
“I did...but I came back.” Zhou mi smiled weakly, turning the tap on to splash water on his face.
“I need more practice....I need to dance better....” Zhou mi murmured, Eunhyuk wasn't sure if he was talking to him or himself.
Zhou mi grabbed onto him suddenly “Eunhyuk.....help me!”
Eunhyuk frowned and rubbed his reddening eyes,“Zhou mi....you have the dance covered already, you don't need to push yourself!” Eunhyuk threw Zhou mi's arm around his own shoulder and picked him off the floor, Zhou mi wasn't the best dancer of the group, but it wasn't like he needed extra training in his opinion.
Zhou mi shook his head “No! I need to be better.....I need to be better....” He pushed Eunhyuk off him slightly “I'm alright Eunhyuk, you should go home, you have a schedule tomorrow right?”
Eunhyuk sighed and sat Zhou mi down on one of the benches“Stay here. I'll send you home after I have my shower.”
Zhou mi didn't say anything as he stared into the mirror at himself, Eunhyuk quickly gathered his clothes as he rushed off to his shower.
Eunhyuk was tired, dead tired. He almost thought he was going to go to sleep standing and the shower running down his head.
He took more time shwoering than he expected, when he came out, Zhou mi was gone.
“Maybe he went home already....” He shrugged off his worries quickly turned off the lights and made his way out the building.
As he drifted to sleep that night, he didn't think more about Zhou mi throwing up over the basin, or Zhou mi whispering over and over again t”I need to be better”, or of how Zhou mi was almost shaking in his arms.
He closed his eyes, and sleep came over him.
Eunhyuk covered his face as the memory came.
“Eunhyuk.....help me!”
Why didn't you....why didn't you Lee Hyuk-jae? He screamed at himself as his tears ran through his fingers.
-
Ryeowook shivered.
He hated hospitals. So cold, and hopeless.
He had Henry clutching onto him. He hugged Henry tighter, he didn't know who was comforting who anymore.
Zhou mi hyung.......
Zhou mi wasn't the closest person to Ryeowook, but they were close never less. Ryeowook remembered the time of their first long stya in Taiwan in 2011. Zhou mi took him out to all the places he wanted to go without complaint. The huge smile of his always hanging on his face as they were greeted by screaming fans and requests for autographs and pictures. Even though sometimes some girls only wanted a photo with Ryeowook, Zhou mi would only laugh and volunteer to be photographer.
Zhou mi hyung's smiling eyes and wide smile.
Zhou mi hyung's laugh that was hard to cease once it started.
The Zhou mi he knew, remembers.
The Zhou mi that stood on the edge of the building with his lips curled into a weak smile with cold, hopeless eyes. He didn't know that person, when had his Zhou mi hyung become like that?
Ryeowook didn't know, didn't remember.
“You would never understand....”
Zhou mi's words echoed in his mind.
I don't understand hyung, I don't!
-
Siwon clapsed his hands together and bowed his head.
Please God....please......
Siwon knew. He'd noticed something was wrong with Zhou mi.
He smile lessened by day, till it seemed like he never smiled like he used to before.
His sweet, romantic lyrics became words of pain and regret.
Siwon knew, but he thought it was just a phase Zhou mi was going through because of his parents' death.
When Zhou mi called him two weeks ago, he was just on a five minute break on a drama set.
“Shi yuan?” His voice was quiet, calm. Almost emotionless.
“Zhou mi? Hey~ What's up?”
“Nothing, I just wanted to talk.....are you busy?” Zhou mi asked hesitantly.
“Hmm....uh yea sure. What's wrong?”
Zhou mi paused, for a long time, until Siwon heard a staff call his name.
“Oh, hey sorry Zhou mi, I have to be on set now, I will call you later okay?” Siwon apologized earnestly.
“.....Okay.”
Siwon waited till Zhou mi hung up before he did, maybe out of habit, maybe to take away some of the guilt, he promised himself he'd call Zhou mi later.
He kept his promise, he did call.
“Zhou mi~ hey I'm at home now, what did you want to talk about?”
“Shi yuan? Oh......it's nothing....”
“Really....how have you been then?”
“Fine....hey sorry Shi yuan, I have to go now, bye.”
Zhou mi hung up abruptly and Siwon shrugged it off, telling himself to talk about it with Zhou mi when they meet in person.
The next time they met in person, Siwon was trying to get Zhou mi to step off the edge of the building he was going to throw himself off.
He failed, so Zhou mi jumped.
-
Henry cried. He cried until there were no more tears to come.
He hated this, hated himself for letting this happen to Zhou mi, hated the anti-fans, hated the company, hated all the members of Super Junior who weren't just members of a sub-unit.
On top of it all, he hated Zhou mi.
Hated him for not being strong, hated Zhou mi for leaving him behind.
If Zhou mi had asked, Henry would have left with him, left SM, even though they didn't have the popularity to fight SM like Hangeng did, he still would have left.
They could've became a whole new group themselves, not in Korea, not in China, maybe Taiwan, or Hong Kong or even the States.
All he had to do was ask.
The last time Henry talked to Zhou mi, was yesterday.
Henry didn't usually announce his arrival home, usually TRAX hyungs and Zhou mi wouldn't be home, even if they were, they would be huddled in their own rooms, so when Henry came home that night, he took his usual route back to his room.
Walking through the corridor, he noticed a slight breeze.
“Hmm....? Zhou mi ge's room?” He frowned, Zhou mi's door was wide open.
When he first looked inside, he thought the room was empty, because it was pitch black, but when he focused, he saw a figure seated beside the window.
The window was wide open, a cold breeze picking up the collar of Zhou mi's white shirt, his collar bones exposed to the wind.
Moonlight spilled into the room, illuminating Zhou mi's features.
“Zhou mi ge?” Henry knocked on the open door lightly “You will catch a cold like this..”
Zhou mi tore his eyes from the window and looked at him.
“Henry....” His voice was deep and raspy, almost a croak. “Gege is sorry...”
Henry frowned “What, why?” he pouted suddenly “Did you steal my snacks from my room again?”
Zhou mi looked at him, then laughed.
It seemed like a long time ago Henry heard him laugh
“Henry....you have to learn to take care of yourself okay?”
Henry dropped his pout “I know, I know, snacks aren't good for me, I wont snack so much, only once in a while okay?” Henry held up three fingers as if to “swear to God”
Zhou mi's laugh lingered on his lips, his eyes softened.
“Go to sleep little Henry~” He said with a teasing voice “You...might have a big day tomorrow...” his eyes dropped to the ground.
“Big day?” Henry cocked his head in curiousity “Will you take me out to play?”
Zhou mi only smiled “Sleep.”
Henry chuckled “Alright ge, good night.”
“Good bye....Henry” Zhou mi said in english.
“Aiya, ge~ It's “Good night” not “Good bye”! How can you get something so basic wrong? Your english tutor Emma will be mad if she finds out!”
Zhou mi only held his smile as Henry exited his room.
-
Kyuhyun stared at the floor, he was dreaming, Zhou mi just threw himself off a building, he had to be dreaming.
Zhou mi had always been around, Kyuhyun noticed him, but he only remembers him now.
While Zhou mi is busy being unconscious and Kyuhyun is waiting.
He remembers now how much Zhou mi's changed this past year.
The way his expression is almost constantly a light frown between his brows.
The way he never talks to him about anything but trivial things anymore.
The way he doesn't request photos anymore.
The way his smile is never more than a smile anymore.
It all clicks just now.
Too late.
The “Operating” light flicks off and the doors opened. For a moment they were all frozen to the spot.
The doctor smiled wearily.
