He flinch as he heard the familiar tune of his ringtone fill up the dark, eerie room.
His hand reached out from the blankets to search for the source of the disturbance of his sleep,
finally reaching the familiar cool, metal touch of his phone.
Sitting up, he shivered slightly as the cold air met with his warm body.
"Hello?" his voice replaced the tune of the ringtone.
The phone gave him no response, "hello?" He repeated himself, desprately wishing that he had not woken up from his peaceful
sleep just because of a prank call.
He frowned as he heard the person in the other end of the line intake a sharp breath.
"...Y-Yong..." the voice was abnormally raspy and low, different from the voice that he usually heard.
"Hyun?" He gasped slightly as the nickname he was called triggered realization to dawn over him.
"Yong...." the female voice sniffed slightly "I know I shouldn't call you...but I don't know who else to call....you're my
best friend...."
Yong Hwa felt a lump forming in his throat "Have you been crying?"
Seohyun let out a small sob in response.
"Where are you? I'm coming now."
-------
"Seohyun!" His voice cut through the rustling wind, quickening his footsteps, he reached the girl who was sitting at the
sole park bench alone.
She smiled bitterly as he approached "Yong...."
"Are you okay?" he sat down beside her, studying her tear-streaked face.
She giggled "It's funny....how hard it is to forget a person after a break-up." she said softly, reaching her hand out, as if she wanted to touch one of the stars in the sky.
"Hyun...." He sighed, grapsing her out-stretched hand and pulling it down.
"I know Yong....I know....but I just can't forget...." she shook her head slightly, her tears threatening to escape again.
"Hyun....why can't-" he stopped when she stood up suddenly, waltzing ahead the walking track and laughing her cheery, bell laughs.
"Hyun..." He followed her , concern dripping in his voice.
"We used to come here all the time, talk sitting on that park bench, take walks down this path..." she giggled like a little girl
"That tree!" She pointed to a big oak tree planted beside the path "We watched it grow!" she laughed again, her laugh was hollow,
empty, yet so desprate.
"Hyun!" He grasped her by the shoulders and turned her around to face him "Stop it! You're scaring me!"
She stopped, her smile, her laugh, all disappeared as she stared at him with her big, clear eyes.
Breaking the gaze finally, she smiled and broke free of his grasp "Sorry Yong..." She resumed to walking down the path,
normally this time. Yong Hwa sighed but continued to follow her.
"Just forget, Hyun..." He broke the silence after they had walked in silence for a long distance.
She smiled "I am."
She continued to walk, and he silently followed her.
She stopped finally as she reached the end of the path, where there was a patch of empty soil that held a flower bed at the right season.
"This..." she turned around to face him "is where he first confessed he liked me."
She couldn't stop her tears from falling as she continued "Where we had our first kiss, where we promised to love each other forever."
She smiled through her tears at her memories "Where I was told that our love was no more."
Sighing, she produced a photograph from her coat pocket, the girl and the boy in the photo smiled brightly at her.
"We used to be so happy...." she traced the photo with her finger.
Before she can notice, he snatched the photo from her hand.
"Please Seohyun..." He pleaded "It hurts me just as much to see you like this...please...please stop it."
He dug his hands into her coat-covered shoulders.
She nodded softly "I will Yong, this is the last time...I promise...."
She eased the photo out of his hands.
--------
He turned to face her as his car pulled up in front of her house.
"Hyun..." he was in pain, it hurt him to see her like this.
"Sh...." She placed her finger on his lips "Yong....it's okay...that would be the last time, like I promised."
He nodded, and patted her shoulder.
She leaned in, placing her cold lips onto his.
He did nothing, just closed his eyes, he felt her tearsdrops brushing onto his cheeks.
She was smiling when she pulled away "One last time."
"I'm sorry Hyun." He whispered, she shook her head.
She placed the photograph in his hands, "Keep it, I will forget, like you told me to."
She smiled one last smile, and left his car.
Yong Hwa only stared at the photograph after she left, he felt guilt consume him of the pain he brought her.
He traced the photo, like she had.
The smiling faces of him and Seohyun stared back at him.
Turning the photo around, he read the messade "Jung Yong Hwa Loves Seo Joo Hyun forever."
He closed his eyes.
She was right, they were so happy, once.
