So, myself being myself, of course I would read any spoilers available for Deathly Hallows (the last Harry Potter book, in case you are out of the loop). Unlike the rest of my flist, it seems. So, I traipsed happily to spoil_me_dh (SPOILER SIGHT: WARNING, READ AT YOUR OWN RISK) and scouredthe entries

Since everyone is missing it and I'm too polite to hit people on the head really hard:

the UK version of the book has 608 pages (in all versions).

The US version is almost 800 pages.

And everyone is quoting 700, so I'm assuming that something's a little off. :)

I'd link you to someone-or-other's thingy about how the pages match up blah-di-blah, but it might lead you to other spoiler-ish things. Basically, it's the American version, which is supposed to be 785 pages. The "leaked" copy is listed with 759 pages, but according to whomever was claiming this, the US includes other actual pages, even blanks. Of which, there are 25. That makes it 784.

Of course, that theory sounds like it's straight from a stinky asshole.

But, regardless, the more I go over it in my head, the more it sounds like fanfic, so so so much. Then again, look at HBP. Personally, I'm leaning very strongly toward the greatest hoax to have ever hoaxed, and it would be even better if JKR herself was behind it.

At least it's an entertaining read, right? :D

Let me amend my earlier comment with...

TOTALLY FAKE. JESUS THE FAKENESS. I'm going through all this again with a sharp eye, and my god, the THINGS that people would NOT SAY and the references and good gracious.

I am refraining myself from telling you all these things that seriously shine like a damn sun for being obviously not right. But, on the 6% off chance that JKR really did lose her head... :D
