Holiday! (again)

Jul 15, 2016 21:01

So, have come back from a holiday! (yeah, I'm suddenly having all the holidays at the moment!) This one was up in Yorkshire, between Scarborough and Whitby. It was a really gorgeous place, lots of beautiful rolling hills and fields and stuff.

I also had a great deal of fun on this holiday because the day we went, I read Robert Swindells Room 13 ( Read more... )

the books they breed, i has a social life!

It's lovely round the North Yorks coast! I'm glad you got to Robin Hood's Bay. When you said where you'd went, it was my first thought before I clicked on the cut - although if it now only has one second hand bookshop, I am saddened, as it had three last time I went. Amazing.

I'm sorry you didn't get to be as long as you'd like in Whitby, but as you say, maybe another time! Whitby is very nice but also rather odd (and if you do go again, never try going by car on a summer weekend or any bank holiday, there's literally nowhere to park! We tried it once and thus ended up at Staithes.)

(I am a bit further north along the coast, being in Teesside, about 40 mins away from Whitby. *waves belatedly down the coastline at you*)

Glad you had a nice time!

Funnily enough we were in Whitby for a day last week. I really liked it too even though it was heaving with tourists. The Abbey was very atmospheric and I'd really have liked longer to see it but we had to catch our train as we'd come on the North York Moors railway.

Glad you had a good time :)

This is delightful! I visited a lot of the same places when I studied abroad in York, so it's a bit of a walk down memory lane...

I actually couldn't find the wall paintings the first time I went to the church in Pickering. I never thought to look up until I came back again for a second visit, determined to find them this time round. But I did have an absolutely lovely walk in the woods by the old castle (closed for the season, so I didn't get to go inside.)

I also couldn't find Anne Bronte's grave, so maybe there is just something about finding things in England that doesn't quite work for my American mind. Didn't find the tearooms in Whitby Abbey either (there was a goth festival going on when I visited Whitby, which distracted me), but clearly that wasn't a loss!

How I hope that I too can see Anne Bronte's grave someday. Quite a site to visit.

Sounds like a fun and busy trip!

Sorry, the tearoom experience was so lousy!

Glad you found the book you'd been searching a long time for.

LOL at the chicken growling.

Congrats on doing all that and writing a ton!
