I have always felt exactly like that about Kel. She is just so awesome in every way and I would love to be like her! Especially that incredible work ethic, and her stoicism.
Kel is just fantastic. I think it's my favourite Tamora Pierce quartet, just because of her - I'm not very stoic, it's not something you could ever call me!
I think sometimes it can be because of actor charisma if it's a live-action thing - I know there are some characters that I probably wouldn't like so much if they weren't amazingly acted. But sometimes with books, it's just ... yeah, random and strange!
And yeah, a lot of it rings true for me too - or a character can fall into two camps (for instance, I empathise a lot with Takako from Battle Royale, but I also know I could never be as strong as her in that situation, so she is both #1 and #2). Hmm, I shall have to reflect on whether for me there are additional facets!
Nothing wrong with being a Vila or a Matsuda, either ;)
I like those cathegories. And about 2) character like Gwen, yes. Generally I think it's easier to make me like 3) - though less about the anti-me, but specifically villains without many regrets, perhaps? - than 2), so I''m always impressed when a story does. Matsuda was great!
That's a really hard question to answer! I'm trying to think why I like the characters I like, and while some of them overlap with your categories, others really don't. I quite like a lot of antagonistic characters, not cause I enjoy hating them or anything, but because they're so dynamic. :/ triicckkkyyyy
