Random Harry Potter thought

So, aprops of rewatching Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets ...

Did anybody ever write an AU where Lucius Malfoy sneaked Harry the diary instead of Ginny? Because although I haven't really got a plot for it in my mind, I can't help thinking that would be fascinating(there'd need to be a justfication for why he didn't tell Ron and Hermione ( Read more... )

Huh, interesting. I think he might tell them, but I also feel Harry would be a bit less suspectible to Tom for the reason you just said - he already has people he talks to. Ginny apparently didn't - she's close with her brothers, but the ones still at Hogwarts (in the country even) have their own Hogwarts lives, and I don't get the impression Ginny had a lot. But it's still an interesting thought. What about PS/SS Harry?

I don't know if anyone ever wrote it (although given the massive volume of Harry Potter fic, surely something of the sort is out there somewhere)...but that would be so interesting. It would really heighten the compare and contrast Harry and Voldemort aspect of that book...

And probably he would tell Ron and Hermione, but even if Hermione was all, "The book is talking to you? CLEARLY IT IS FULL OF EVIL," I could see him not listening - after all, he didn't in the Half-Blood Prince. And because they were so against it, he would stop talking to them about it...and Tom would slowly drag Harry more and more into his grasp...

Did Tom imperio Ginny to make her do the things he wanted her to do? Clearly that wouldn't work with Harry. He would have to be much more cunning than that...

It has so much potential!

I would be all over that to be honest, it sounds fascinating!

Also I could imagine the three of them working together to solve the mystery with helpful Tom as their book friend, while meanwhile Harry (who's looking after the book because he's more reliable than Ron and Hermione feels uncomfortable hiding stuff and breaking the rules) chats to him on a one-to-one basis quite a lot and there's lots of bonding over them both being orphans and sometimes feeling out of things at Hogwarts. And then I think if you built it up right, you could pull it off that Harry didn't immediately go to the other two when he started noticing odd things happening.
