I quite liked A Secret History, though I quite empathise with your feelings on the narrator. But I think it's intentional, if that helps. (If it isn't, sorry, Donna...) You might like Special Topics in Calamity Physics, by the way - though it doesn't help with the male author thingy.

I think it's intentional too, I forgot I was going to say that. I can live with that. :) Read a bit more today, feel more into it now - I think I might quite like it.

Our garage is some sort of magical mouse haven. They ALWAYS get in and we've no idea how. At least they don't tend to make it into the house unless the garage door open.
