Mystery Science Dock 3000 - Now with Joel Robinson.

Jun 05, 2006 22:24

Okay, due to some demand for a MacOS X Joel icon in the aforeposted MST dock (and who doesn't need more Joel in our lives?), I've updated the SOL3k Disk Image (now 873k) to include a Joel app.

Alternatively you can download just Joel (Joel.zip, 223k) if you already nabbed Crow, Servo and Mike earlier today ( Read more... )

icons, dock, macosx, mst3k

I was always a bigger fan of Mike.

Sure, Joel saw the crappier movies, but he always struck me as the class clown. The insecure kid who used humor to hide the fact that he wasn't that bright.

Later he'd use alcohol as a diversionary tactic for himself.

Mike, on the other hand, had brighter commentary, better delivery, and a razor-sharp wit.

In this case, the replacement was better (for my money) than the original.

Mike was also the head writer for the entire run of the show. His books are hilarious.

We (my former household) once wrote him to let him know that we had watched his "favorite film," Road House, twice consecutively in an evening (true story) and invited him out to Portland to watch it again. He wrote back:

James,

I would, but it would be a big pain for me to get there... Wait a minute --
I just remembered. "Pain don't hurt." I'll be there.

Yours in Dalton,

Mike Nelson

When my friend Kyle was in the hospital for his cystic fibrosis and things were looking grim, we reached out to all his heroes to have them call him up if they could.

We got an amazing turn out, actually. Among the people were Warren Ellis and Mike J. Nelson... which is why I have both their phone numbers in my cellphone (though I have yet to call either one of them... perhaps one day I'll get drunk enough).
