A Year in Review - Books

Jan 21, 2011 00:20

I honestly thought I'd written about the books I'd read sometime since last January. Apparently not. *facepalm* So, behind the cut, the 28 books I read last year with comments about them. I had thought about splitting this into two posts, but I've already read 5 more this month that I'll have to write about fairly soon. :) So, with no further ado ( Read more... )

Oh wow, can't wait to read through this post!! In fact, I might print it up and read through it over breakfast so I can mark the ones I want to read.

Hee! Hope you find something! There was one you mentioned in your last post that I thought sounded interesting. Should go reread and make a note... :)

O.M.G. Can you please do more book reports?? Or if you've been doing them and I happen to have missed a ton of them then I need to go back through your LJ ( ... )

I've tagged all my previous reviews under the 'books' tag, so you can find them that way. Unfortunately, I didn't do any last year after January. Kept meaning to, and kept forgetting. That's why this entry's so long. :D I hope to do better this year. *crosses fingers ( ... )

I'm going to have to go back and look through your tags.

I actually thought of you while reading "Loving Frank", what with you living in Chicago and all. :)

Aww, thanks. I live in Oak Park, home of 2 different FLW tours (his house and Unity Temple) and many FLW knock-offs.

That is scary about the Handmaid's Tale. I once read an interview with the author and she said that everything in that book has actually happened, in one country or another, in modern times.

Have you read the Ramses novels by Christian Jacq? They're the story of Moses from the POV of the Pharaoh, and I really enjoyed them when I read them many years ago. :)

Hmmm...this does sound like something I read literally 25 years ago (I'm not kidding...I remember being 13 and on vacation and reading something that sounds like this). I will check them out and see if they're what I'm thinking they are.

:) I did wonder if you lived anywhere near there. I think that will make the book more enjoyable for you, since his life there is talked about quite a bit.

O.M.G. I mean, yeah, I can see some of it happening in patriarchal societies like in the Mid East, but everything?! 0_0

Hmm... I think the Ramses books only came out about 13 years ago, at least in paperback. Could be that they were in hardback a while before that. Either way... :)

Oh goodness, so glad you agree about Stieg Larsson. I work in a bookstore, as you may know, and it's been in our top ten of bestselling books for over a year now - and it just doesn't. Speak to me. At all.

Yay for Bill Bryson! He can make anything fun and interesting to read, I don't know how he does it *g*. And I've been meaning to read the Book Thief!

That Dorian Gray book sounds like fun too - adding it to my ever-growing list, ahem ;).

Yes, I did know that. :) And, yeah, I was expecting better the way everyone raves about it. And, like I said, the story was interesting once I got there. It just took too damn long to get there. :)

I do like Bill Bryson's stuff. :) I should read more of it... Do read "The Book Thief"! It's a good story and a quick read.

Oh, boy, do I know about ever-growing lists. :P

Nice icon, btw. :D
