Same-sex couples from Wisconsin who go to California to marry could face criminal charges when they return home.

A Wisconsin law makes it a criminal offense to enter into a marriage outside the state if that marriage were illegal in Wisconsin.

it'll be interesting to see if they enforce that one. several states created such laws to prevent people in interracial couples from leaving the state to get married in more permissive places. remember how mitt romney was threatening to enforce the one in massachusetts after their supreme court decided to allow gay marriages? mass allowed interracial marriage, but had created the law to protect itself from lawsuits filed by other states who forbade interracial marriages. the supreme court in massachusetts stomped on that effort, though, because they never enforced the law in the case of interracial marriages so they told mitt that he couldn't crack it out of cold storage just to oppress the ghey peeps.

ok. i was trying to delete that comment, but it seems not to be working. i thought that massachusetts had had a legal showdown about marrying couples from out of state and that the gov had lost that battle. apparently, i was misinformed, which i'd have learned if i'd read your entire post to the end. :P i will go do penance by kneeling in the sacred waters of the frio river and fasting from the eating of food. i'll sustain myself with beer and sunshine. i promise not to enjoy it. :P
