To an extent that's realistic. When one's adrenalin has been dumped, your brain is sophisticated enough that when you shoot a gun you barely hear it(because your fingers tell your brain "LOUD NOISE COMING" and you ignore it), whereas if somebody next to you shoots it's very very loud. So you can easily shoot someone and it'll barely register.
Cool. I always just make these things up, 'cause I've never actually been in a situation like that. :P Although, the same principle seems to apply at the range. My own shots never seem as loud as the guy's next to me.
