I have 5 BUCKETS of obsidian. For serious. Want a bucket? It's smaller pieces, but for learning it's great. I do some flintknapping too, I'm not great but... and go or the limestone hammerstone. They're really easy to use and don't put any internal fractures in the stone. I don't currently have any hammerstones though, so if you find a good source and can find an extra or two, I'd really appreciate it. :)
Also, glass buttes, OR. It's near Bend? That's where my obsidian is from. You can just go down there and fill a couple buckets. It's amazing. Only problem is you'd need a big truck. We tried taking a van and did a shit ton of damage to the undercarriage.
