Title: "Rain and Tears" Author:luvvycat Characters: Elizabeth Swann, Will Turner Rating: PG Prompt: Bride Word count: 100 Disclaimer: PotC is Disney's, not mine. *sniff*
two warriors battling for survival on a tilting, slippery deck
That paragraph was very vivid, violent and poetic.
Thank you so much! I wanted to capture the feel of that scene-- the tension, the danger--particularly in its juxtaposition with the earlier wedding-that-never-was, and how greatly their lives had changed since then, how the fairy-tale had turned into harsh reality. I'm glad that you think it worked! :-)
In fact the drabble brings back all those sad scenes with great clarity.
I remember how stunned I was when I first saw AWE, the moment Jones plunged the sword into Will's chest. It was so completely unexpected, and so thoroughly shocking (and, yes, very very sad!). Thank you for letting me know my words effectively called back those scenes for you!
Many thanks for the wonderful comments! (And apologies for the tardy response! Just got sucked into the holiday whirlwind, with too much going on on the home front!) :-)
Poor kids- they were soon separated both times, weren't they?
Unfortunately for them, yes. Truly star-crossed lovers, the two of them.
: Holding the Ten Years Later scene firmly in mind :
Yes, the one ray of hope in their hopeless situation. They will be reunited in a decade, and have a beautiful son to show for their "one day" honeymoon!
Thank you so much for reading, and Commenting! Hope you and yours had a very happy Christmas! :-)
Cat, this is a fantastic drabble. The imagery in the piece, the poetic cadence - so lovely. Especially this: clashing steel providing both ring and bridal-bells
They never did get catch much of a break, did they? A perfect tale worthy of our heros. Nicely done!

I have to admit, that turned out to be my favourite line as well! (Trying to conjure up wedding imagery in the midst of a raging battle scene was a bit tricky, so I'm glad to have hit upon something that "worked" for the situation!) :-)

Sadly, no. Both attempts to achieve marital bliss, curtailed by tragic circumstances! Poor kids!

I'm happy you think so! Thank you so much for your lovely comments! I can't tell how much I appreciate the feedback! :-)

Comparing their two weddings is so original. I'm surprised it hasn't been done. It really builds up the tragedy of their whole romance, really. It's almost like they never stood a chance. But it's so great how even in this little drabble you show how they grew. They started out in a fairy tale state, still with most of their innocence intact, and then by their next wedding they are hardened warriors who have seen the good, the bad, and all the shades of gray inbetween. Great summary of the darker aspect of their relationship.

I happened upon the rain/tears link almost by accident. When considering the drabble prompt "bride" I immediately thought of Elizabeth, who had been a bride twice over. I thought of the beginning of DMC: Elizabeth in her wedding gown, crying in the rain, and then an image flashed into my mind of her second wedding on the deck of the Black Pearl, she and Will both soaked to the skin, looking like drowned rats... then, shortly thereafter, her crying over Will as he lay dying on the Dutchman. And voila! :-)

You've done yourself proud, inspired language and a respect for the beloveds.
All of these beautiful images and the cadence is heartbeats as their lives slip away from ideal to pain. So very beautiful, 'nuff said.
Thank you for the loveliest compliments! :-)
And even though my fannish leanings are quite decidedly J/E, one just cannot ignore the long history and the bond of first friendship, then love shared by W/E, and respect and honour that. I'm so glad you think I did exactly that! :-)

LOL! Yes, the glimmer of (green) light on their horizon, and a reunion to look forward to!
Thank you so much for your beautiful Comments! Such a wonderful holiday gift, to have you say such nice things about my writing! ;-)
Fondest greetings of the season to you, and hope your Christmas was a happy one! :-)
