Original picture:
Starting with my base, cropped to 100X100 and sharpened once.
Take this by
inxsomniax and set to 100% overlay.

The above texture was cut out from this larger one.
Take this by
inxsomniax and set to 100% saturation.

The above texture was cut out from this larger one.
Duplicate your base once, bring to the top and set it to 100% soft light.

Set this to 100% color, again, by
inxsomniax.

Paste the texture in again and set it to darken 100%.

The above texture was cut out from this larger one.
Duplicate your base and bring it to the top, set to 100% hue.

And if you want to do this last step, duplicate and bring to the top your base once again, and set to 100% luminosity.

I also think adding a brush in black, and setting it to overlay or soft light looks snazzy.
