my two cents: having not pursued keri arthur for romance novels, i've thoroughly enjoyed her work. i've read all of the riley books and a couple of the nikki books. the story really fills out in the later riley books. there's still plenty of steaminess and maybe a bit of romance, but the plot and character development are what drew me in.

Thanks for adding your two cents worth. I really appreciate hearing from people and appreciate all views on what I or someone else have to say. I don't think I've heard of her Nikki books would you mind telling me what they are about in general.

I think I might persevere with this one and read her next book and see how I feel after that. It will, at the least, give me a break from reading straight out romances.

the first nikki and michael book is called dancing with the devil. nikki is a private investigator with some psychic abilities. she's hired to watch this rich guy's daughter and runs afoul of an evil vampire. she meets michael - a "good" vampire - and much tension and romance-y stuff ensues along with a good bit of spookiness and minor suspense.

the second nikki and michael book is called hearts in darkness and once again nikki is on the trail of a Big Bad. michael gets involved and there's more spookiness and sexual tension.

again, they aren't romance novels in the traditional sense (i've never read a traditional romance, but i'm fairly certain of my statement). but there is love and sex and tension and conflict and a nice bit of paranormal mystery.

i'm a big fan of fantasy - lately leaning towards the vampire/werewolf end of the spectrum. and i must say that keri arthur has successfully scratched my itch. (:

Well I'm intrigued by Nikki. I might give Nikki a try and see how it goes there. I do prefer vampires over werewolves, maybe that will make a difference.
